Anyone played it recently? What shape is the course in?

I played early December and was pretty dry. Really long grass in the rough (3 or 4 feet) wild oats.
Such a hard course because can't see many of the pins from the tees.
Greens are pretty patchy but still fast. Their clubhouse facilities aren't much good anymore.
Just a couple of fridges. No accessories or anything so make sure stock up

Who owns that joint now? Years ago it used to be immaculate and a fab hangout for the glitterati but sounds like it has suffered from poor management in recent times?

I think your handicap needs looking at.
I have played it once, had 103 and my handicap is 24. Sure, it wasnt my best day, but an 81???

When I played at State championship last year I was 12 shots better on day 2 compared to day 1. Granted Day 1 was my first look at the layout I was playing and I did strike plenty of trouble which I avoided on day 2.

Played the Dunes at Port Hughes a few weeks ago. It seems they are running short on cash because the fairways are mainly brown and crisp, meaning they're not watering them anywhere near as much.

The greens are extremely quick but are great to putt on but with the hard fairways, your drives get another 20 or 30 metres. Was great when it was being watered but don't expect to find a green course this summer at Port Hughes.

Amen. So you had back to back nett high 50s/low 60s somethings mt?
Wirrina isnt the hardest course, but if you are going around in mid to low 80s you shouldnt be on anything above 20.

Remind me not to enter any comps you are in....Burglar! 8)

Golf Link would sort this out surely? I crashed and burned at Pymble the other week and came in with 16 points (three lost balls) and the system didn't even give me back a stroke!
I had a real day out at Port Augusta in November and cleaned up with a net 64 and immediatley lost three strokes.

Must strike gold 8 times out of 20 ;)

Must admit I have an uphill battle the next few rounds. Struck an all time handicapp personal low of 18 but 2 of my next 3 rounds are counters so I might not be there for long...

Drove past Augusta the other day. Never played there. Worth it?

Very much so Onsong. It is a beautiful course with some very interesting holes. I will play with you there one day if you want. Then you can show me around Balak! What's that like by the way?

Greens are very slow to prevent them from dying in the summer but for a volunteer-run country course, I consider it to be very good.

That said, it's not outstanding but I'm sure when the winter months roll around, it would be quite picturesque. It is what it is. Would rather play there than the Dunes at the moment. Haha.

Well Port Augusta has two paid employees ( green keeper/groundsmen types) and the rest is volunteer labor. They siphon water off from the town steds scheme so the fairways and greens are mostly rich and lush. Tell the boss you have a breaking story to follow up in Port Augusta and come up for a quick 18. Perhaps Bugsy Thomson is looking at coaching South Augusta
