Since the new rules have come in, I've noticed after watching Carlton's last 2 games that Fevola has taken more dives than the Italian Football Team. Last week he had a major hissy fit and so the umpire decided to award him a free kick for his efforts. Yesterday he has another hissy fit so the umpire gave him a free kick. And people think Lloydy dives.'
— "Bombers 4 Ever", an Essendon fan, on http://www.bigfooty.com forum this week.

They were going spare out in cyberspace this week over Jeff Farmer's eye gouge on Kangaroo defender Daniel Pratt, among other controversies. Out in footyland, there is no quiet week, and on the rare occasion that the din drops, there are plenty of talking points to ponder.

The return of the reserves

"It's another great excuse to throw AFL money at Victorian football. Then they can shift it all back to the current structure again in another eight years." Porthos"Solution, the AFL hands out half the money they would have spent on this reserves competition to the WAFL, the VFL and the SANFL, and football will be better off as a whole. Better 'pathway' for kids coming through as (there will be) less of a gap between the so-called second-tier comps and the AFL and a better standard for the AFL players who get dropped. Sadly for football's soul, Andrew 'look at the size of my todger' Demetriou would never countenance this." TopsyWaldron
AFL for Tasmania

"The AFL can keep their 5000-strong Carrara crowds … Sign the petition and help give Tasmania its own AFL team. (Post quotes Tim Lane's Age article last Saturday)." Fishmonger on bigfooty"I don't think we will ever get a team. The AFL will watch football die a slow and painful death in Tasmania." Remember me"It would be great if there were two less teams in Melbourne replaced by teams in the Gold Coast and Tasmania as it would make the competition truly national. They might need propping up by the AFL for a while, but then again, that has been the status quo for a couple of Melbourne-based teams for too long anyway. Mind you, as a WCE supporter, I'm happy with the current arrangement of the powerful interstate teams dominating the Melbourne clubs (which are) struggling in the over-saturated Victorian market financially and thus performance-wise." Actually the Packer and Murdoch empires dominate the print media, but they know that socialist orientated readers are the ones who can be lured in, worked up to feel cheated, and be sold things like that old advertisement one of the unions ran years ago, "There only difference between these rooms is $40,000 a year!"

The union was wrong - the difference was taste! One room shown was sparsely furnished and the allegedly better one was overdone and tatty!

However, jealous people who feel cheated can be convinced they need all this rubbish. Similarly, the only people of my acquaintance who have Foxtel, and very expensive to run multimedia mobile phones, are those who can least afford it.

So Murdoch etc. and their advertisers run the print media, but they know who the suckers in the market are.

Was actually kidding in the title.
Out of thousands of posts on bigfooty last week Topsys was one of four or five quoted in the age.

I nearly choked on my morning coffee when I saw this. I don't know what was funnier actually reading it in a Victorian paper or me trying to explain to the table of Vics at breakfast who Topsy Waldron (the real one) was.

Slowly - HE....DIDN'T.....PLAY.....IN....VICTORIA.....BUT....HE....STILL.....PLAYED....LEAGUE....FOOTBALL :P

It cracks me up Sheik, that this thread was moved to the new 'Politics' forum...
I might start up a topic bitching about the new 'Hands in the Back' rule
& give it a title like 'Backbenchers'
just to see where it ends up eh!
