More so,why wasn't I told?

Having recently changed employers,one of the roles I am to undertake at my new position is to interview and employ two new storemen.I dont expect storemen to be in a suit,but,dress up.Now,when I came in for my interview,collar,tie and the best shoes,as you do,or,as you did!

It now appears as though the world has allowed the following changes to take place;

1:Shorts and T-shirt are acceptable to wear to job interviews.Camo style cargo shorts and ripped black t-shirt,fine.

2: You dont have to turn you I-pod off during the interview.Just let the earphones hang around your chest with the music still blaring.Doof-doof-doof.

3:Tell your potential employer,"The job looks boring,but I only want something to pay the bills 'til I get me license back and I can drive me truck again."

4:When asked in the interview "What do you like to do when you're not at work?" Answer is simple."Sleep". No doubt highly motivated.

I'm sure things used to be different?

If you pay peanuts you get monkeys Booney....

At no point did I say peanuts were on offer,other than the one's the agency has sent to us.

Will all due respect to Storemen, I would not expect it to pay well.

My point is if you were interviewing for a Lawyer, Accountant, Engineer etc. then they will be well dressed and respectable.

I had applied for a job as a research engineer with an interstate-based employer. I happened to be interstate on personal affairs - but without any formal attire - when I got the call asking me to come over for an interview. So I turned up the next day wearing sandals and shorts.

I got the job.

I hope you were wearing more than just sandals and shorts, Psuedo.....

I'm hearing you Boon, I see the same thing myself on a regular basis. I was always taught to dress impeccably for any job interview - it appears people dress now to what they think they will be wearing once they have the job. That's a little too presumptuous in my book.

I don't see too many kids now getting life educations - either from parents or schools. No idea about job interviews (even the applications and CV's are shithouse) and no idea about managing finances. The number of employees I have helped out of financial holes with nothing but guidance is astounding.

You should try training the people that someone else has already hired!

Yes and don't they love getting advice? Some of them need a belting to sharpen up a little.

Some kids I take on board as a 'project' of sorts - if they have some good qualities that are more important than the bad habits they have, but I have better things to do than be a baby sitter.

Good work.It's easy to find good points in people.The test is how long it takes you to find them.

I think I know the guy you're talking about Booney:

Its the new Generation Booney...I hire Graduates every year for the finance industry...some of them turn up for an interview without a tie and/or jacket, unbelievable considering they are gong for a job starting at $55k p.a. straight out of Uni.....

Naturally it's all relative depending on the job. I'm with you Booney - in this case how hard would it have been to find some light coloured casual dress strides and a clean, smart polo or button-up shirt?

I would expect any person to dress in a manner to be appropriate with the level one up from the position they are applying for.

Anything less and they dont get too much of a hearing.

I interviewed the majority of my candidates by phone....should I have been worried about what they wear? lol

What I found annoying was that one of the candidates (who I knew previously) rounded me up in the bar at the Big Day Out, said "hello" and then commenced looking for inside info on what I was going to be asking at their interview four days later.
As if I wanted to talk about it there and then!

Yep. For some jobs, turning up in a suit would not go down well at all...

I am a storeman. I am a security gaurd. I am a bouncer. I am a food handler certificate 111. I am a chef. I am a kitchen hand. I am a fitter & turner. I am a truck driver. I am a taxi driver. I am everything rolled into one. I am a sanitation engineer.

I dress up for interviews...!

On the Bad side, I am 50 years old.... No one wants me...?

Sack your agency. Get another one who can understand clear cut instructions on what NOT to send you.

Or take the role on yourself. You'd be surprised how much a resume can say about a person. If the resume looks like shit, chances are the presentation of the candidate will be aligned or their attitude will. Agencies these days will send you anything.
