i was happy to see terry hicks promoting the sanfl (wearing an sanfl cap) for the whole documentry

as for guilty or not i do not know but i think the kid should be in australia especially seeing the yanks are reluctant to give him a trial (it'd be like a mal trial) 'we'll give you a fair trial & then we'll hang you"

Agrred he hasnt been found guilty BUT we do know he has trained in a terrorist camp and I dont think he was over there to get a sun tan...amazes me how so many people feel sorry for him yet given a chance he would have blown the heads off our troops...

Stepping back and looking at this situation, it occured to me that Labor could lose the election if they keep pressuring for Hicks to be brought back to Australia.

The media very much like to play "Good Cop, Bad Cop". At present the media is saturated with how unfair it is that Hicks is in detention.

Yet what happens when A Current Affair or similar start to focus, as they will on Hicks and what he is into? Say they repeat some of what Hicks is reported to have said in relation to the terrorising and killing of Jewish people. If the tide turns and Hicks is portrayed as Labor's pin up boy, Liberal are a chance to do it for a fourth time and consecutively increase their winning margin over 16 seats.

If Hicks is found guilty of training with Al-Queda, or fighting with the Taliban or both, then it is clearly treason with intent to harm and he should recieve the same punishment that Van Nugen got in Singapore and be hung at dawn. Some of his filth that he has said in the public forum was read out recently on 5RPH, when people become no different to animals, they should be treated as such. Go and ask Andrew Knox's family what they think of Al-Queda and how they should be dealt with.

If Hicks is found guilty, he should be punished according to the law.

The lack of fair process in this case should make us all ashamed.

Or perhaps we should use your standards: perhaps Jimmy's 'guilty by newspaper photo', possibly Sojourner's "if he's found guilty", or what about Brad's 'hopefully he's found guilty and he will be dealt with properly".

What you say is correct...there are 2 issues here, the way he has been treated and whether he is gulity or not...dont confuse the 2...Im sure his supporters adn family are playing up the way he is being treated to try and get some sympathy for his cause and blur what he was actually doing...

Arent alot of the iraq's being killed by suicide bombers? presume they are terrorist...but then again they havent been charged...

Well one would be pretty brave to go to Afghanistan without carrying a gun... I'm not going to judge someone guilty over a photograph. But as others have said him being guilty or not is only half the point, he has been in detainment for five years, without a trial. Like how people got worried about baggage handlers putting drugs in their bags over the whole corby thing, people will be worried, what if im in the wrong place at the wrong time on the other side of the world and happen to look like someone or something. Would the government go into bat for one of its citizens at the risk of having to stop brown nosing the US for a day or so.

oh and dutchy, there is this thing called innocent till proven guilty, even mass murders get it in a court room.

Precisely. I'm not differentiating between any of the sides involved, except to say that I would hope our standards are better than those of the terrorists and that we uphold a proper system of justice, no matter who we've detained.

The photo u are referring too was from when he acted as sort of a mercenary in Bosnia fighting for the muslims against the Bosnian Serbs. And whos side were Australia and the US on then????

We were all batting for Hicks team. Hicks was well known to NATO and was to receive training after the conflict ended. But was deserted by NATO.
Hicks is a Muslim and he enjoys being a soldier. He went to a few other places then ended up in Paki/Afghanistan to do what he wanted to do. Found an organisation that trained Muslim soldiers and went about joining and training. He would have had no knowledge of the plan for 9/11 and when he found out what happened he tried to flee Afghanistan and was turned in at the border.

Hicks is stupid! No doubt. But this time he chose the wrong team and is paying the price for just being loosely associated with Terrorism.

5 Years in Guantanamo Bay (what in Australia would be equivilant to Yatala x 50,), is an absolute disgrace! and is a massive violation of human rights and POW laws.

He's a dick and stupid but nmoone deserves that treatment. Bring him home!


PS. Wonder if he would go back and play footy for Smithfield again??
