Flying

Postby gazzamagoo » Thu Aug 17, 2023 5:56 pm

Am I pushing my luck?
Flying to Darwin & arriving at 10.45am,
departing Darwin to Kununurra at 11.20am,
should I make the connecting flight?
Or am I cutting things too fine.
Will have checked bags.

I wouldn’t risk it but Darwin is not too bad if you are on one PNR and have luggage checked through.
Pretty much step off one plane and go to the next gate and get on another
The same PNR does mean that the airline is responsible for you should you miss connection and they have to get you on the next flight or put you up in a hotel.
I doubt it is on one PNR though as it would error out on MCT (although airline IT is known to throw in some curveballs)
If on seperate PNR’s By time the flight lands and if you have to collect luggage your check in would have closed and you are up for the cost of new flight, accommodation etc.
I wouldn’t risk it TBH

Rex Airlines enters voluntary administration, regional services still running, but all major routes have ceased operations, with ticket holders of those routes able to re-book with Virgin for free if they do so by 14th April, but no refunds will be offered.

Pure hubris from Rex has seen them get into this mess. Went against all advice from experts in the industry. If they had stuck with what they were good at they would be fine.
Virgin will immediately take over the leases of 3 737’s and will come out of this looking pretty good

If the traffic is light heading to Darwin you should get there a tad earlier.

Flew to Mt Gambier on Rex in Feb, 9 people on the flight, flew Qantas on the way back and there was 11 of us, not sure how routes like that can sustain 2 operators.

Various government subsidies on some routes and freight plays a big part too. Mount Gambier is a very profitable freight route
