In light of the recent sad deaths of 2 female jockeys, what common sport world wide would be more dangerous than horse racing in terms of competitors being killed?
Also are the regular deaths that occur in horse racing (humans as well as horses) just an accepted part and parcel of the business and nothing should change? In saying that i've no doubt that over the years there have been significant safety improvements made to minimize harm to horse and rider but the deaths keep on happening.

On a serious note things like BASE jumping and Sky Diving don't really accommodate errors in judgement very well.
Boxing and MMA would probably count for many deaths indirectly, as in post career with neurological damage.
Then sports like swimming, cycling, jogging etc where people push themselves to the limits when they aren't perhaps physically capable. I'm thinking of the average man/woman here, not professional athletes.

Given what we now know about concussion you have to assume combat sports have a limited life span.

People go into it knowing the potential risk, no different to the base jumpers or sky divers mentioned above. Or surfers, rock climbers etc etc.
As long as men have testosterone there'll be two of them fighting.

You can usually tempt them with a stonefish.

(which immediately suggests bullfighting as a dangerous real "sport". Certainly for the bull...)

Motor Racing would have to be up there, especially at the 'lower' levels

There's probably two categories here, death vs injury.
Extreme Mountain Bike riding looks epic and if you come off you're going to take a lot of bark off of your self and perhaps a leg facing the opposite direction to what it should.
Jumps racing on the horses would be ultimately scary, you rarely see a race when no one falls off, I'm not a fan in the slightest of it.
Then there's motor racing, probably the obvious one, one slight brain fart and you're no longer with us.

You could say the same thing about duelling, but we don't let people do that for our entertainment.
