Iconic Adelaide store Trims in administration

ICONIC Adelaide store Trims has gone into administration.

The outfitter was founded in 1937 by brothers Alf and John Trim and has long been one of the city's best-known clothing stores.

More details to come.

Shit.

I've never shopped there, but it's still sad nonetheless.

Yup and if you buy on-line overseas and spend under $1000 you don't pay GST.

This Governemnt if Pharked, obvious revenue raising oportunity there and you also protect Australian businesses.

I know that sounds obvious, but shops here are far more expensive then shops over in the USA. Know wonder everyone is going online.

I know of a major sports retail chain who has been considering that staff be instructed to ask "Are you simply trying these on to then purchase them on-line?"...I think they thought better of it.

I have shopped at Trims previously, it was expensive but usually good quality.

Not surprised. I buy new shoes for $100 from the United States when they would cost $250+ here. It's a no brainer. Never been in store just to try a pair on though, that would be weird.

Government's fault? Ha!

Retailers have been ripping us off for years, they have only themselves to blame.

Only works until the manufacturer forces the US distributor to not sell them to Australian customers.... isn't that right Asics.....

Trims at Marion shut down over a year ago now.

Sad, always liked their stuff they had in there. For a 39 year old it was good without going to some other stores and either looking like a try hard or a Grandpa !!! ;)

I did on a motorbike helmet, if a local store in Adelaide that I've just bought a brand new bike from can't get close to matching a Melbourne based online store's price (the online store chucks in a $100 set of gloves as well) for exactly the same product I'll buy it online and save the more than $100 on the price without gloves (I could have gone OS for even less but it wouldn't have had the required standards marking label stuck on it)

I (along with just about every other punk/post punk in Adelaide) got my leather jacket there back in the 80's. I always use to buy my jeans and Doc Martens there as well. When I was back in Adelaide a year or so back I went there looking for a winter coat and it was like some try hard trendy store with Gen Yers with attitude serving there, as oppossed to the helpful staff I remember from the good old days. I don't know whose fault that is, but it's NOT the Government's fault and it's not on line shopping fault.

Times have changed
I used to do most of my shopping at Trims in the late 70s and 80s
Buying Jeans and clothing was about the cheapest of the times in Adelaide for what I wanted
I would even hire suits for occasions
The service was outstanding
All of the elderly staff were exceptional when it came to service

I very rarely go to town these days , parking difficulty, or parking costs , put me off
I have not shopped at Trims for about 25 years now, sounds like its changed a fair bit

And yes , I bought leather jackets there

I used to shop at Trims regularly when I first moved to Adelaide in the 80's and did until the late 90's, the shop was everything LL and Mal have described it as, when my son started to want name brand clothes in the early 2000's we went back there a bit, it was ok but I recall saying to MrsIan that it "just isn't the same Trims any more", I went there a couple of years ago and it had turned into the Try Hard store LL described, the past decade or so has been a constant move away from what made Trims so great to start with, I fear Harris Scarfe will be have gone down the same path when it's new store opens
