The new knife law says you can't purchase a knife if you are under 16 years of age. I have been fishing since I was about 5, have had several knives over the years. How will the new laws affect young fishers?

I started when I was about 5 as well. As far as i know the law is you can't sell a knife to someone under 16, so a parent can buy it and give it to the kid. I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure this new law is because of the recent stabbings in adel. But to my understanding all the stabbing have been carried out by people over the age of 18.

I think the police would look at the situation. If the kids on the breakwater, with a tacklebox and rod, he should be fine. If he's walking down Salisbury Hwy with the same knife on him, they'd probably charge him.

What if he's walking to the bus stop on Salisbury hwy with the intention of going to the breakwater and carrying a tackle box. What would happen then?

A fishing knife is a bit different to to the types of knives used in violent crimes? A bait knife is different to a switch blade. City police are idiots with this kind of thing but they should be able to see a clear difference between intentions.

Anyone found with a knife with the intention of stabbing people should be forced to go 3 rounds with the Klitschko brothers.

Well I doubt many people that are intent on stabbing someone will carry around a tacklebox and rod just in case the cops see them before they find the intended victim. I think it would be at the officers discretion, and they should still question anyone carrying a knife in public, no matter what they're going to use it for. Safety first.

I don't think the law actually states anything about carrying a knife, as i'm pretty sure if you get caught walking around with a knife in your pocket you would get done no matter what age you are. The law is only about the purchase of the knife.

I think it only relates to purchasing knives, not carrying them.

Of course, the kitchen draw at home usually has knives in it, so I'm not sure what the point of the law really is.

The type of people who carry a knife with intent, I would doubt they obtain them at the nearest kitchenware outlet.
