I have to replace a rusted out rainwater tank at my place and have been quoted around $800 for a similar one to what I had, what I wondered is what it costs to sink and set up a bore in your backyard?

I am only a few doors up from a creek which normally has water in for most of the year, so am thinking there would likely be a water table not to far away. A mate of mine has a bore at West Croydon that goes down 20 meters yet I have heard of another chap whose bore only goes down 6 meters to find water down Port Adelaide way, so I am not sure if the depth of the water table has any bearing on the cost of getting it done?

Intersted to find out what it might cost and if its a better bet than rainwater for watering the gardens?

The submersible pump I repaired in mine a couple of years ago cost $3,000 plus labour to take it out and put it back in. It had lasted about 12 years since I last fixed it. It was a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

I'm not far from the Port and, although I dont actually know how far down my bore goes, it has never run dry.

It has stained the fences with a rusty colour, the plants dont seem to mind it. My pump is above the ground and has had some minor servicing in my 4 years at the house, luckily my brother is in that industry and pretty good with pumps so he did some maintenance and repairs.

One thing I would check though, I believe new bores are metered, or at least should be. You may want to check that.

The salt content will obviously be higher using bore water over rain water.
That might explain your rust on your fence Booney.

It's not the salt but an iron bacteria in the water that causes the staining

There was a ban on bore drilling and setting one up in homes when all the water restrictions came in 5 or so years ago.
Not sure if that has been lifted, if it has I reckon you are looking at 2k plus for the bore drilling plus the pump
Mine goes down 60ft and has been going for 12 years with plenty of water still coming out.

I'm having issues with the pump at the moment, booney what company does your bro work for and do they do callouts to home?

Sorry mate, he lives in Mildura and doesn't actually do that for a living, he used to work in a sales role selling them and is a bit more handy than me when it comes to that sort of thing.

No worries, my dad used to work it out and fix it for me when I had issues now that he is gone I'm finding it hard to work out whats wrong.Just have to fork out the money to get someone to have a look at it.
