Best Country Pubs

Postby The Patriach » Mon Oct 15, 2012 8:34 pm

Just thought I'd start this discussion - keen for a few road trips this upcoming summer and would like to know, what are the country pubs you all rate and why?

Cheers in advance!

Overland Corner - best pub in the Riverland. Historic, secluded, great atmosphere and good beer garden and camping. New owners have just taken over. Has a cracking new year's show.

Also...Swan Reach Hotel. Brilliant view overlooking the river.

If anyone is heading up the Barrier Hwy, stop into the Manoora Pub and say g'day to Chris and Sue, they've just taken over about 2 weeks ago

I nearly purchased The Overland Corner back in 2001! agreed, a great pub, as is The Swan Reach, for the view. The Mount Mary pub is a favourite of mine also, it's the isolation of it that makes it appealing (and the poem on the wall, written by my old man) but my fave would have to be The Renmark Club. Sitting with a cold frothy at the back of the club on the river's edge is one heck of a nice way to spend a hot summer's day.

The Blinman pub is a ripper. Just don't worry about going to the Parachilna pub up the road because it is pure tourist rip off territory.

Whilst having lost some of its rustic charm following the redevelopment, The Victory Hotel at Sellicks is still a magnificent pub especially the view having a quiet beer whilst sitting on the beer garden wall looking over the gulf. Don't think I'll see $14.90 Cape Jervis King George Whiting there again like you used to 15 years ago...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

not really country BUT a sensational pub, what a cellar! Doug loves his grog. I got married in 2003 on the lawns of The Victory! Well served by Matt the Sturt supporting barman.

My sister used to be one of his (Doug's) Bar wenches. I class it as country, especially when I used to live that way I had to pay STD charges on phone calls to ring Adelaide and I got country rates on my car rego.

Marion Bay Hotel is a magnificent pub. Does wood oven pizza and some awesome fresh seafood.

It's not the greatest pub in the world, but it's the best weekend of my year at the Transcontinental in Quorn. With Wakefield, Lochiel, Red Hill and Stirling North as pit stops along the way.

The Ventnor at Port Vincent is also a place I spend another quality long weekend each year.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Not sure whether Inglewood would be classed as country and I haven't been for a few years now but the food was lovely.
