Just had delivered a great pair of Quad Roller Skates and am itch'n to go.

Haven't done it for 35 years but used to enjoy St Clair roller skating back in the 70's.

Will probably break my neck.

But looking for similar interested persons to quad skate along Sema4 to outa harbour...?

For fitness & fun. :D

Let's start sunday mornings... :D

Show your interest. :D

Maybe starting some sort of club?

I was a Downtown girl myself - Saturday morning sessions from 9am-12pm and then my figure skating lesson afterwards.

DOn't have my skates anymore though :(

I've still got it though, there used to be a place called Skate FX in Pooraka and they had a skating rink - we used to go down there and have a skate while her kids played on the skateboard track

What year did "Downtown" shut down? I assume "Tilt" was closed at the same time.

Good question, either 87 or 88 I reckon..

Actually, maybe it was a bit later - I know it was still operating when the myer centre opened because you could use Dazzle Land tokens at Downtown I think.

Useless information of the day: The very first Dazzle Land tokens are collectors items - mainly for the reason that ""Myer" was spelt "MYRE" on the back of the tokens. True story.

As a kid, I used to think that "Downtown" song was dedicated to Downtown in Hindley Street

You too huh? I remember it was used on a TV ad for a duty-free shop of the same name. Wasn't that also in Hindley St?

In 1988 it moved (minus the roller skating rink) closer to King William street, in the same building as the HJs. I worked in that HJs from the day it opened early in '88. I don't remember how long Downtown lasted in that location but it wasn't for long. The HJs outlasted it.

I think Tilt was still operating at the time. Can't be sure. I remember when they had $1 for 1 hour all-you-can-play sessions on the upper deck. 8)

Tilt was open in 2003, closed either that year or the year after. Spent some lunches playing big buck hunter!

Edit... May not have been the original tilt, but was definitely tilt.

Hated Downtown. Eastwood was the place to skate. Didn't mind Hindmarsh either.

Whilst living in Port Lincoln as a kid in the 1970's, I remember during school holidays, walking with my brother and a few other kids, out to the roller skate centre, which was a few km's out of town. It may have been where the marina is now.

I used to roller skate a lot as a kid, and moved on to ice skating in my teens and 20s when there was a rink in the city.
Ice skating wasn't bad for picking up girls then either - you could start out helping them stay upright initially. ;)

I have an impulse now, even at my age, to try roller blades, but I figure I'd better get my weight down a bit more before I try it.

I grew up in Darwin and we went to the skate rink there until 1998. In one corner there was a lip thing where you could skate up the wall. Used to play red rover and have backwards skating races and win prizes.

Best place in the world!!!
