Just had a door knocker from Alinta Energy saying if i sign my name down im going to get all these discounts on my energy bill. I hate that kind of stuff so wasnt really listening but reckons he can help out for some reason.

Has anyone else had somewhere from Alinta come around.

Whats the go in simple terms.

I am amazed at what she's been able to save, plus she says they are polite and not pushy

My battles with AGL have been documented on this site. I ditched them last week and saved 13% on my bill. I also went with Lumo. Their call centre is in Melbourne. AGL's is not.

Ok so Lumo could be the way to go we are having massive issues with TruEnergy

We had some real problems with Truenergy ourselves. Especially when trying to connect to the new house we built.
Currently with origin for gas & AGL for electricity, but are looking to change as well.

Just got home from work and Mrs Jimmy showed me the latest Lumo bill compared to last year.
Less usage but still around 20%+ less cost than last year on a like for like basis
She also said that when we moved to Lumo, Origin came back and said they'de match them
Mrs Jimmy has a good sense of right and wrong, and told him where to go for his next holiday............

The only problem I have had with lumo is the 2 door to door sales person. The first guy was alright when I told him I was already with them. The second was some dumb blonde that when I said I'm alright thanks anyway started to abuse me saying I was stupid for paying a higher bill so I gave her a mouthful an told her she should check her records as I already am with them. I'm pretty sure they are a outside company that does the door to door, so apart from that I've been pretty happy

They are all much and much the same. I had a housemate who would change providers every time someone knocked on the door.

Same here.

I've had some mail offering low rates and looked at a few on line ads, but when I read the fine print describing the costs per unit of power my current Origin deal stacks up OK.

I say my current deal because after I queried a meter misreading about 2 years ago Origin spontaneously offered a better deal than the one I had been on.
It is not a deal listed on their website or any of the comparison sites on the Net.

I'd been using Origin since 2004 after being ripped off by AGL -they had charged us twice for something and my wife paid it because she was ill and didn't notice.
It took over 3 years to extract a refund from AGL.

Alinta just came around to my door and told me they could save me $200 - $300 a year. I told them Id rather pay more to help the world economy and that I didnt have 5 mins to organise anything. Do any morons actually sign up to door to door offers?

Yep thats what made me concerned, i had some cocky yank who wanted my details right then and there, i told him i didnt have any on me and wouldnt until my wife got home, he said he could come in and wait, i told him i was just about to watch some animal porn and rub one out. He told me he could come back later.

A few years ago Red Energy (I think that was the name) were going door to door doing that then transferring people whether they wanted to be transferred or not.
At the time once they had your details it was your word against theirs about whether you had agreed to the transfer or not.
I think it got tightened up by the state government after a bit of publicity fuss in The Age.

I was never sure whether the company was intending to do this, or whether it was just that their canvassers were twisting the rules to reach quota.

Just had someone from Lumo Energy knock at the door.

Could not understand a word she said. However she was a solid 8 / 10
