If its time actually served it would be a long time to wait for a return.. these days they get life and actually serve 10 years... He will get less than 45.

No, I think this is another carp thread and Thornton would not be running a book on the outcome of the sentence.

pleaded guilty and he is young = < 45... they love to think they can rehabilitate people... over 45 years doesn't allow for that...

I'm pretty sure No one has ever been sentenced >45 years here?
Usually get a non-parole of about 30 years.

Two of the Snowtown killers were sentenced without the possibility of parole I think. So thats probably similar to a 45 year sentence.
I think this Kapunda bloke will get around 30 years, I would personally like to see someone like him never released, however I think I read the other day the Prosecution say they expect a non parole period to be fixed so as to give a little bit of hope and assist with prospects for "rehabilitation".

By law his age, guilty plea and previous record must be taken into account during sentencing.

Being 20 now, he was already at least 18 when the murders took place, so age probably won't be an issue.
He pleaded guilty, but still maintained his innocence to the police, his mother and his brother. Which means he either lied to a judge or a police officer.
I dont think previous record counts for much when you slaughter a family...

Although those matters are to be taken into account, a Judge would give them diffferent weight, taking into account given circumstances of the case. The Advertiser article states that family members of the victims did not actually see this particular apology letter. Given this and other indicators of a lack of remorse, his guilty plea may not count for as much as it may in "normal" circumstances.

I doubt it these kind of criminals are almost untouchable inside.
One thing that I've never been able to work out with this case is how the hell a skinny 18/19 yo kid is able to overpower (and stab 30 times) a fully grown adult male who was also a labourer? The poor girl and mum okay but the father too, just doesn't make sense.

Surprise attack apparently the dad never knew what hit him and there are suggestions that a lot of the stabbings were done after the victims were dead
