Has anyone had a brilliant idea but not had the means to develop it into the actual product or concept they imagine.
For instance, say you had this idea to make a can opener but you're not great with actually designing or engineering tools etc.
So, the concept is there but getting the actual idea made is the hard part.
How do you go turning your ideas into reality?
This may be too deep for SA Footy, thought it would be worth a crack.

You should be able to contract a CAD designer to make some 3D CAD data and drawings. Then get it prototyped locally.
If all goes well, source toolmakers and moulders from China and away you go.
Patent it first though...

Yeah, you can't patent an idea, but a prototype you can.
What I'm proposing can't have a prototype as such but I reckon I've found the right path to head down.
Thanks for the advice though!

OS, talk to our mate Beaker Lock. He'd have an idea about this sort of stuff.

Classic Beaker. What a legend. How could I forget Beaker?

You don't know how to built the thing or even a prototype it ... so how the hell do you know it's going to work?

I know you probably don't want to give away your idea but maybe give us some sort of clues like what's it made of what needs to be done to make it. Your best bet would be speaking to someone that has a trade background in the work that needs to be done. Even though you think trusting someone that has a uni degree and has spent all this studying is the best option majority of the time it actually turns out cost you more money, nothing worst then having spent a heap of money on getting something designed and drawn up to then get it made to find out that it doesn't. I've had drawings from engineers where bolt holes don't even line up, needless to say that's why my work doesn't employ and engineer that comes from uni anymore.
