Where is your countdown clock? ( To the Christmas break? )

We break up at lunch time *hiccup* on Thursday next week.

I have 4.5 days to go.

Finish tomorrow afternoon at this stage. Still considering the option of making it lunchtime tomorrow, then gone for nearly a month. Can't wait.

Should have added, back on the 16th Jan.

Next week will be pretty relaxed though, doing thank yous and taking customers out for lunches...

Not going away (the wife only gets the Public Holidays off as well) but looking forward to working on the golf swing, watching a few old footy tapes and reading some books

Sounds too familiar BP. I've got "lunches" booked for Monday and Tuesday with clients, got 20 cartons to drop off in various places and will do a full round of clients over the next 4 days.

Tuesdays lunch will be taxi home, the boys from that particular client know how to go hard*.

For the first time in 8 years Im having the Christmas/NYE time off, mixed feelings. Always enjoyed working thru as its very relaxed, can catch up on a heap of work and its always a late start and early finish! Id rather save the holidays for when it busy at work!!

But off to Marion Bay in the caravan park for 7 days so looking forward to that.

I finish next Friday Lunch, then have 5 weeks off and don't come back to work until Monday 30th January!

I try to avoid taking holidays over Xmas as its the best time of year to work in town (last year being an exception as we went to Sydney for Xmas then Phuket not long after.). Have about 6 days off in the next 3 weeks from public holidays and rostered days off then start my usual leave for 3 weeks in mid Jan.

Interesting the "Holidays at Christmas V No holidays at Christmas" debate.

Having spent 8 years in a hospital environment where things slowed right down and I worked through Christmas every year, I too thought it was the best time to work and took holidays at other times during the year and was an advocate for this.

Now, having my current employer of 4 years shut-down over the break for 3 weeks or more I love it. I get to spend more time with mates going fishing, golfing, one-night getaways with other families and I love it.

I now think back to those days when I worked through and getting messages from mates while at work when they were fishing, golfing etc and never thought about it at the time, but I was missing out!

5:30 christmas eve... too depressing to work out how long that is...

Just the public holidays for me this year - as a few have said prefer to actually work in the week between Christmas and New Year. Travel time is pretty much halved!

Normal for the missus & I. We have 4 weeks off in March to head over to Malaysia so that'll suffice.....

I love working in the city Booney. Worked out in the burbs for 12 years before moving into town 11 years ago. Wouldnt work in the suburbs again even if they paid me 10k extra.
When my kids move out one day Ill be moving closer to the city if not into it too!
BUT the best time is the week after Xmas as I do nothing, roads are empty. If I head to the country the only time I wont go is on long weekend or at holiday times with the amount of morons on the road or at shacks so this fits in nicely too.
I love the city but hate people!
Me and the missus usually altetnate time off so I also like giving her the first session every Christmas time as its then her that has to clean up the house for Christmas and not me!
Weather is also a factor with it traditionally being better beach weather later in the summer.

I'm pretty lucky being able to choose whenever I want leave though.

I finish tomorrow, the 16th at 11:00, head to the staff lunch and then go back to work on the 23rd of January....

I love having got a job working at a school and I'm not a teacher...

This will be the first time I have ever had more than 2 weeks off in a row for any sort of holidays, I have never had a break over Christmas at all and quite often would be oncall as well... So really looking forward to the next 5 weeks off...

Booney, is that time taken out of your annual leave? Therefore you don't get a regular 4 weeks to use in the rest of the year?

I've worked in the city for 12 years. I wouldn't want to work anywhere else.
