Interesting article in today's Advertiser about the discount grocery chain, known for selling food that is past its "best-before" date, and food that is no longer sold in mainstream stores, due to being discontinued or the like.
The Tiser bought a tin of pineapple more than 2 years past its "best-before" date and in their words, "the fruit and juice were brown and it did not smell like pineapple". The picture would put many pineapple fans off for life.
In fairness, the store does have signs stating that food may be past its "use-by" date OR "best-before" date (there are legal differences between the two), and I have been there a few times to both Clovelly Park and Morphett Vale, occasionally buying either non perishables (eg sprays) or items within their date but discontinued (eg potato chip flavours).
Does anyone here shop there regularly and if so, what are some of your good/bad experiences?

I've shopped there a bit cos I'm not deterred by use by dates too much. HOWEVER, if something was 2 years past it's used by date I'd be a bit concerned. I've never, and would never try and purchase something that was 2 years past it's best before/used by date.

I think the only thing Mrs.Boon has ever purchased from there, and we are still chipping through it, was 24 boxes of OMO laundry powder that had many of the boxes with slight water damage. Some of them we chucked as the water has leaked into the box making the powder all gluggy. Probably 6 or 8 got chucked.
From memory, Coles had the product out for about $11 and she got 24 boxes for $2 each.
This was about 4 years ago.

If ever I'm near the Morphett Vale Rite Price store I go in there for sure

I never buy anything more than a few months past the useby date - and have often seen the stuff that is well and truly over date - and wonder who the heck would buy such a thing - I personally wouldn't touch it with a barge pole...lol.
However have got a few bargains over the years, but the best buy I got there was I reckon when Bilo changed to coles - Rite Price had all the old Bilo brand noodles (Which this house loved) going out by the 24 carton for something rediculous like $2 - I bought quite a few cartons - was awesome

I think I shall do my Christmas shopping at Rite-Price this year. Two dollar cartons of no-brand noodles for everybody!

My missus bought some camembert cheese from Woolies yesterday that was so putrid I don't know how she got it into her shopping bag, through the checkout and sat with it in the car on the way home without realising it was badly, badly decomposing and rotten.
These sorts of things will happen from time to time, at least you sort of expect it from Rite Price.

A suit with "security" embroidery will get you places you want to be. And in this case, don't want to be

I buy a lot of my soft drinks and sports drinks there as the prices are very good and these products dont necessarily lose their integrity. There are a few other things as well such as gum, lollies, noodles and frozen goods. Its not that hard to check the dates and make sure your goods were manufactured in this millenium.
I bought dried fruit there once....just once

all stores can sell expired foods now (coles/woolies etc) but they must state this on the package that its out of date at a reduced price.
I know this for a fact as i work for one of the mentioned supermarket chains. They can sell 'out of date' products at a reduced price now but must show that its being sold out of date
