The most bizarre thing happened to me today...

Postby Footy Chick » Wed Oct 26, 2011 10:49 am

Woken up by ringing phone at around 2.45am from a private number (which I nearly didn't answer)

"Hello, is this Lisa Wright"

Sleepy me: "yes it is"

"this is Senior Constable Ben Bloggs (note: can't remember his real name, I was barely awake) from Holden Hill Police. Sorry for the time of the call but we've just apprehened a male who had in his possesion amongst other things several sets of car keys and one of the keyrings had <insert rego plate here> on the keyring which we've traced as being you as the registered owner, do you still own this vehicle?"

still sleepy me: Ummmm, yes I do.

Policeman: Have you reported a set of stolen car keys or note any missing?

still sleepy me: Errrrrrr, no... I don't think so, actually come to think of it, Ive had this car almost 7 years and I cant recall actually getting a spare set of car keys when I bought the car. Mind you I'm half asleep so my memory understandably isn't that good. I could have had a spare set and given them to my brother.... you don't have my brother there do you?

Policeman: *laughs" no but you might want to look outside to see if your car is there.

still sleepy me: oh, of course *gets out of bed and stumbles to front door, tripping over a cat on the way out - open door* " Yep, car is still there"

I then proceed to tell the policeman where I bought the car (Northpoint toyota). He then revealed that the keyring attached to said keys had an avis keyring on them and I said that could be right because I bought an ex hire car.

Policeman: Ok, we'll need to keep these keys for a little while while we process the male and we'll let you know when you can have your keys.

Still sleepy me: Wow, I now have a spare set of car keys, cool!

So turns out this guy probably stole these keys from Avis back in 2004 and has been randomly combing the area and various shopping centres with all these keys, pressing the remotes to see if any cars unlock

Feels a bit weird know knowing that some crim has had keys to my car for all that time!

policeman called again at 7am and came around to make sure that the keys did in fact open and start my car and I'm now the proud owner of a 2nd set of keys, which is handy because the little button that opens the central locking is starting to die on my original set

What's your bizarre story?

Hooley Dooley FC
lol

(Forgive me if I've told this story previously...lol)
Not quite the same kind of story as FC, but bizarre none the less O:)

I used to work in a bank - in a small but busy town/branch.
On my day off and pay day one week I went into the branch and lined up.
While I'm waiting in line my manager comes out and says "Hey do you want your pay slip?"
Me "Yes thanks"
He proceeds to frisby it across the counter out to me standing in line.
While still standing in line waiting to be served I open my pay slip.

It says they have paid my fortnightly part time wage into my account $26,000+

I then take myself out of line and walk up to my manager and say "Ummm <insert name here> - I think they've stuffed up my pay - missprinted"

I show him my pay slip he says "Let's check your account"
Sure enough they had paid me $26,000

Of course I paid it all back at once - payroll had even had to 'check' off the pays and still didn't pick it up !

That printed pay slip took pride of place on the staff notice board for many years...lol

similar story to FC but with a less happy ending. a mate of mine got a phone call one day, 'hello this is constable ben bloggs from elizabeth police, we have recovered your stolen car"
"my car hasnt been stolen, it is on the driveway"
"no sir we have recovered it, i am standing next to it"
"no, it is on the driveway, is this you tipper"
"sir can you please go check the driveway for me..."
"fine................(in the distance) @#$% ^^*&(*% (*^&^%*^%$.........ok where do i come pick it up"

he had previously had 2 cars stolen and thought it was his mates playing a prank!

I was walking around Tea Tree Plaza around 2am this morning with a set of keys that I stole from Avis around 7 years ago.
I was pressing the door open button trying to find the car so I could steal it.
Next thing I am apprehended by a copper from the Holden Hill Police Station for possessing stolen keys

How bizarre - who would have thought:

1. There was actually a copper out there pounding the beat especially at 2am
2. His name was Senior Constable Ben Bloggs
3. They were your keys

I apprehended a man mysteriously walking around TTP pressing a key remote, it seemed bizarre as it was 2am, I took him in to the station only to discover he stole the keys 7 years ago from AVIS car rentals and the young lass that owned the car didn't even realize that there was another set in existence, she was pretty happy.

I thought Senior Constable Ben Bloggs looked familiar

His police car should have given it away

back on topic....

when I lived with my parents, I got given personalised numberplates by my parents (which I hated I might add). Several months later, we got a phone call about 3.30 one morning.

Hello <gadj1976> this is constable Jordan from Holden Hill Police Station. Do you own a Commodore, with the numberplate SED 315? Because we've just found your car.

I said in my haze "ah sh1t.......yes I do" although the number plate was now my personalised numberplate. But at 3.30 I didn't detect that detail as I was still in shock that my numberplate was my personalised one.

When I did realise what he said, I said "hold on" and went and checked the driveway. My car was still there, and it was cold, so no one had driven it.

My dad got on the phone and said "who is this?". The constable said "Constable Jordan from Holden Hill Police Station". We happened to live in Jordan St at the time. Dad gave the 'person' a blast saying whoever is ringing to stop wasting people's time and hung up.

Next thing we know, there is a cop car, siren ablaze in the driveway. They look at my car to see that 1. it's there. 2. it has the licence plates that are nothing like SED 315. They have a chat to us, we explain the situation and they disappear. It was pure coincidence that someone had been given my rego plates after I gave them to Motor Reg, AND the car was identical, down to colour and model AND the new owner hadn't obviously changed their details with Motor Reg (somehow).

I was officially the owner of two identical cars, one in my driveway and one stolen/recovered!

On a brighter note, I did get to meet Constable Jordan and he seemed pretty cool with the weird situation that had occurred.

Postby Moe » Wed Oct 26, 2011 7:39 pm

When I was about 15 years old, we had a knock at the door rather early on a Sunday morning.
I answered the door to 3 men all in crappy suits who introduced themselves as detectives blue, green & red and asked if "Mr moe" was home.
I answered "Yes I am Mr. Moe".
They then came in after they asked if they could have a word with me, so I grabbed my Dad & sat down in the loungeroom with them all.
The previous night, a serious assault had occurred & the victim had given my name (real name), street name & suburb to the police, as the perpertrater was known to the victim.
Now, these blokes were relly not very cheerful & even when my dad swore black & blue that I had not left the house the previous night as we had had a family show, they did not believe him, or me. We lived in a housing trust house in a low social graphic area, and we were told in no uncertain terms we were scum, liars and I would be arrested as soon as the victim could identify me.
Here is the punchline. When the victim did come to identify me, he asked the police why they were pulling up in front of my house when the person they were looking for lived about 20 houses away?
There was someone with the SAME NAME, not related mind you, and my last name is not all that common, living on the same street, in thae same suburb, the same age and the only difference was the numbers. I lived at no.1 and the other at no.41??

I think it's strange anyway...

About 20 years ago, I picked up the phone & made a phone call to a prospective real estate purchaser. After about 3 or 4 minutes into the conversation, I was aware that I had a crossed line & that someone else was there having a conversation with the person that they had rung. I stopped & listened, then interrupted, said sorry, we have a crossed line, only to find out that the other person was my wife (at the time) on the other end! what are the odds of that happening in suburban Adelaide? cue spelly?

Back when I was 16 and still on my P plates (on them again now but that's another bizarre story) I went to speedway park with a mate and must've pulled my license out with my money while buying food. Ended up getting a duplicate. About 6 months later Mum was listening in to the the cops on her scanner (strange woman my mum but she loved that scanner). Suddenly she's going nuts at Dad saying "the cops have just pulled Robert over on Port road in a stolen car".

I was home and taking a dump at the time but Dad still couldn't convince her it wasn't me until I got out of the crapper and walked into her room. Seems that someone was using my lost license. The cops checked if it was a duplicate or not (pre photo license days) and arrested whoever it was.
