Cable Car to Mt Lofty

In the Adelaide Hills Magazine the proposal of the Cable Car to Mt Lofty has been raised again - sadly I cant link to the actual article, I suspect because they want you to read the mag!

Not sure what the costs would be on setting something like this up, my initial thoughts would be that the main infrastructure would be poles set into the ground, so not a great deal of land clearing or any of the other issues that happen when roads and rail tracks and so on are built, I am not sure how great a distance it is between poles but it seems to be pretty considerable on some of the ones in Europe.

My suggestion would be to have the base station for the cable car at one of the train stations on the Belair line and have it as an interchange so people can take the train and then journey on the cable car up to Mt Lofty and back.

Depending on the cost I think its a pretty reasonable idea, can see it being popular with tourists to SA if its done right, pretty sure the owners of the retail on Mt Lofty would not be opposed to it either!

Thoughts?

not a bad idea. Would be a huge cost though, so unlikely it would ever happen.
was actually thinking about this the other day, agree it would be good from belair station, crossing the national park (koala spotting) on the way through. would be great views on the way up.
could be like the skyrail in cairns.
we don't get the tourists though.

I couldn't imagine enough people would want to use it to make it remotely break even, let alone pay.
As was said above it is not going to get masses of tourists.
