Rego Cameras?

I had heard that it was going to be introduced, I did not know that it had nor that so many people were being caught and being made to cough up nearly 1k over it though!
Essentially they have cameras located in various places that snap and check your number plate to see if your car is registered, if it isn't you then cop the fine!

Your vehicle should be off our roads if it is not registered and insured.
Double the fine.

IIRC from July 1 all new registrations have not been issued a sticker. Police just type in the plate number into data base to check if you are paid up or in this case the camera does....

They have, authorities had only been using them to enforce heavy vehicle breaches for a long time, the actual reporting of light vehicle breaches is fairly recent

all light vehicles no longer require a sticker. so technically you can remove your rego sticker now, even if it was paid prior to July 1. i have. heavy vehicles are still issued, and are required to display a registration sticker though.
also police have had the ability to electronically check rego's for ages, i believe thta previously if they pulled you up, and the sticker said it was expired, and you even admitted it, they would check the system anyway just in case.

If it isn't registered how do they prove who was driving it?

It still shouldn't be on the road.

So you borrow a car. It's not registered. You don't know because the stickers aren't needed anymore.
I guess you need to rely on the person you're borrowing it from knowing. And telling you.

At what point did I say it should be?

Don't take your unregistered car on the road.

A mate of mines mother has been fined 12K in the last 2 weeks, all from the same camera at the Crafers exit.
But her car is actually registered I think, she just made some sort of error filling out the form.

As it seems there are a few people who manage to miss a point I will give an example.
What if a car is used by a number of different people for a business purpose and the registration happens to lapse without anyone becoming aware. It is caught on camera driving unregistered.
If the car isn't registered who do they make the fine out to? You can't fine the car. The person who previously registered the car would be well within their rights to say I don't drive it hence I didn't register it.

I've been caught because I honestly didn't realise I wasn't registered. I mixed the months up.
So, what if I had lent it to someone? In my mind, there wouldn't be an issue as it's registered. But it's not.
Where does the person borrowing the car stand ?

I'm not sure why you are responding to my question if your answer has nothing to do with it.

Just taking the p!ss.
The owner of the car gets fined. It is in turn his or her responsibility to pay it. I got done* in the missus' car a month or two ago. I paid it, but the bill was made out to her. Haha.
