Red light/speed cameras proposed at level crossings

Postby dedja » Wed Jul 27, 2011 3:47 pm

Whilst we all know (or think at least) that red light and speed cameras are predominantly there for revenue raising, I think this is good step ...

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/sout ... 6102803853

In a first for the state, red light cameras will be installed at six level crossing locations across the metropolitan rail network over the next 12 months.

They will be installed at crossings on Leader St at Goodwood, Cormack and Magazine roads, Dry Creek, Commercial Rd, Salisbury, Kilkenny Rd, Woodville Pk, Woodville Rd, Woodville and Womma Rd, Elizabeth North.

Road Safety Minister Tom Kenyon said the cameras were being installed to encourage drivers to obey flashing warning lights and posted speed limits.

"Drivers who disobey the warning signs and drive too fast through level crossings are putting themselves and other drivers at great risk," he said.

Wow. Speed cameras as a safety mechanism. Never thought I'd see the day.

while on this, in Golden Grove at the moment, they are installing another set of traffic lights at the mess out the front of Hungry Jack's etc. 3 sets in approximately 200 metres?? The result will be more pissed off motorists, leading to more impatience & more red-light running. Ridiculous.

So long as every cent raised from speed cameras is without question directed to 15/16 year olds and driver education programs I have no issues with them whatsoever.

If the revenue raised sends some fat cat to Europe to investigate how they develop public transport syetems, I'm not so keen on them.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

one day soon, all new cars will have bar codes built into their chassis, with under the road speed detection devices installed.

I supposed using the revenue to compensate public servants who bonk their partners overnight on a trip won't wash either?

If cars can be tracked like that, won't that ruin the 'car trade' economy in Elizabeth?

That section of roads is just silly - mainly because of the poor design and foresight of the area next to it, with the BP/KFC/HJ etc. They need to blow up that little section and start again.

Or, make the entrance to the GG Recreation and Arts Centre further over - cut into the middle, and make the existing lights coming from the shop into an intersection rather than a t-junction.

A roundabout would be ok IF the lights went away - couldn't have a roundabout and lights/lights IMO.

Yep good call. Driving past it every day is terrible, much like Park Tce in Salisbury with lights at Fasta Pasta, then 40m later at Gawler St, then the train line 30m after that, with Salisbury Highway intersection 50m past that.

The Salisbury Highway would have easily been avoided if they had just made the underpass longer & gone under Waterloo Corner Road, as well as the train line. As per the plan that was in council 30 years ago.

Ok
No, I don't have too much time on my hands. I just wanted to do this for my own amusement.

Existing situation (after lights are active)

This is option one.

- remove lights at rec centre and block it off, making that more carparks.
- add an entrance to the rec centre at current lights from Village

option_1.jpg
option_1.jpg (276.58 KiB) Viewed 607 times

Option two.

Same as option one, but a roundabout instead of lights at the Village. Alternatively, have a roundabout where the new lights are (bottom left)

Screw the graphics, it's all I could do at the moment!

I'd have made Helicon Dr a one way road, with no exit onto Golden Way instead of putting the new set of lights in as well as change the Rec Centre exit to align with shopping centre exit.

I now drive a different way, avoiding that section of road completely.
