Board Games..

Postby GWW » Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:27 am

Similar to "card games" on the other thread, what Board Games have you played over the years?

I don't play a lot these days, but one I have played within the last few years is Balderdash, which I rated fairly highly.

Over the years, particularly as a kid, I've played:
- Scrabble (quite often at xmas time with my grandmother and other family)
- Battleship
- Connect 4 (I was seriously bad at this!)
- Monopoly (don't think I ever managed to ever finish a game)
- Snakes and Ladders (a favourite as a kid)
- Trivia Pursuit
- Boggle
- Word Nerd
- Yahtzee (although not sure if the last 3 I've listed qualify technically as a "board game")

All fairly traditional in our house growing up...

Monopoly
Totopoly (think that was the name...a horse racing one)
Scrabble (only with gran...she played in Scrabble tournaments and she needed someone to practice on and everyone else hated the game)
Cluedo
Snakes and Ladders
Ludo
Draughts
Backgammon
Chess
We would beg for Mouse Trap every Christmas but never got it

After leaving home...some of the above still and...
Trivial Pursuit
Uckers (very, very popular in the Military...every tea break and lunch break)

Regards
JAS

Been playing a lot of Chutes and Ladders (crap American version of Snakes and Ladders that Angus got given by his American family) with Angus and Mr McSpaz lately. It really isn't a patch on the old Snakes and Ladders though. I used to have an old board that belonged to one of my parents when they were younger and the pictures were horrific! There was one of a girl pulling a dog's tail and then you slid down the snake to where it was biting a chunk out of her leg with blood and everything; another one had a boy stealing biscuits out of a jar and then his father beating him with a stick about the size of a drainpipe.

I once played a game of monopoly with my next door neighbour that went for about a month and a half

I have some really good board games.

* Make 5 - a mixture of sodoku and scrabble with letters - bloody good game.

* Name that Tune - 80's version. CD and board game, pretty self explanatory.

* I think it's called TV mania - another CD and board game that was made in Australia to celebrate the 50th anniversary of TV in Australia.

Don't mind scrabble if i'm feeling brainy.

Which reminds me of the "Test Match Cricket" game and the Footy one where you press down on the bit of plastic to make the footy move around the oval.

I used to play Stratego with Mr Ex-McSpaz but he was such a bad winner that I set fire to his board one night. (Seriously, it was completely warranted.)
