I've played Texas hold 'em a couple of times with mates and I used to play it regularly at a bar in a nearby town when I lived in the US. I play euchre with my dad and canasta with my family. Mr McSpaz and I also had a go at playing blackjack as a drinking game a few weeks ago but I completely kicked his arse, then our mate came over and completely kicked MY arse, MM passed out and I drew on his face, I woke up the next morning with the sort of hangover you can only get by chasing cheap Scotch with Strongbows, and now we shudder involuntarily any time the word 'blackjack' is mentioned.

Been a long time since I played real cards.
"May I".
This game probably has many names. The game consists of 7 hands.
1. 2 Sets
2. 1 Set , 1 Run
3. 2 Runs
4. 3 Sets
5. 2 Sets , 1 Run
6. 2 Runs , 1 Set
7. 3 Runs
A set consists of 3 cards or more of the same number any suit. A run consists of 4 cards or more of the same suit in numeric order.
The game requires a minimum of 3 players. No maximum. Each hand is dealt in order to the right from who ever dealt the first hand. 1 Deck of cards is used for every 3 players. Each player is dealt 11 cards. The rest of the cards are placed in the middle of the table. Once everyone is ready 1 card is placed faced up next to the pile of face down cards. The person to the right of the dealer goes first. Any player except who's turn it is may call May I to claim the card faced up. Each player gets 3 May I's. The player who's turn it is may claim the card or allow the player who called May I first to claim the card. A penalty card must be taken for every May I called. The player who's turn it is must either take the card that is facing upward that the previous player next to them tossed out or take the top card on the downward facing pile. Once a card in the upward facing pile is covered with another card that card may never be claimed. Once you take a card you must toss out 1 card onto the up pile. No cards are tossed out when May I is called.
Once the requirements of the hand are obtained you may lay then down on the table. You may wish to lay the cards down with the minimum or hold on to all cards until all can be played. Once down, all remaining cards can be played on other players that are down or on your own cards. The object of the game is to catch your opponents with as many cards as possible in thier hands.
Cards are counted as followed.
2-9 are 5 points
10 - King are ten points
Aces are 25 points.
Game is over when all 7 hands have been played. The player with the lowest score wins.

My dad and uncle played crib regularly years ago. I played 1 or 2 games myself, I recall it was a great game, but I have no idea now what the rules are.
Other games I've played over the years - Switch, "500", Cheat, "21", Sevens. I played "Fish" a lot as a kid too.
Uno is another game I've enjoyed.
I've also learnt a few card tricks over the years too which are good fun.

Come on, surely all of us have played 'Snap' at some time or other, I will warn you though, never play against my Dad.
He cheats.

Texas Hold'em with the boys, generally for a small cash amount.
Inbetweens gets pulled out once we are too p!ssed to concentrate properly but still want to bet.
Pass the ace is about the only other game I play for money and is generally saved for when the younger cousins are around.
Other games played generally more for fun.
Jim Rummy - similar to May I by the sounds of things.
Snap, Cheat, Pigs, Go Fish, Black B!tch.
500
Euchre - though we often play $1 a point on this one.

Love that game. My dad taught it to me about ten years ago. We used to play it at night down at our shack at Myponga Beach. He mostly won because he never believes in letting anyone win (and he's a bad loser too) so I remember the first time I won, I was so stoked. Plus he'd let me have a beer with him if Mum wasn't paying attention (she didn't believe in underage drinking). But now I don't see him much any more - just too busy with my own family - and I don't have anyone to play with. I miss those days.

Being a good Lutheran, 500 always got a run.
Spoons & Presidents and Arseholes got played regularly when I was a kid too. Spoons could get quite brutal at times!

i love "in-betweens"
play alot with my brothers. bankroll can get pretty high.
anyone know what game i'm talking about? may have some different names.
you get two cards face up, for now lets say a 3 and a 10. you wager, if you want, to get a card in-between 3 and 10. if it's outside 3-10, you lose, if you hit the post (pull a 3 or a 10) you lose DOUBLE your original bet.
pretty much a more complex game of "Casino Wars"

Game gets played a bit on Saturday nights at the footy club, but the betting is done in skulls. You lose, you skull yourself. If you win, you hand the skulls out. Doesn't take long to have an effect on some blokes.
A group of us play 31 after training every Thursday night. Basically go around the table trying to get your three card-hand as close to 31 as you can, using the same suit. Player before you puts down a card they don't want, you have the option of picking that up or picking up off the deck. Then put down the card out of the for you have that isn't needed. When someone thinks they're close enough to 31 they won't have the lowest score, they use their turn to 'knock', which signals his intention to end the round. Each player then egst one more turn, all cards turn over and the player with the lowest score loses a life. If someone gets 31 (of the same suit) before anyone knocks, everyone else on the table loses a life. Lose three lives and you're gone. Last one standing wins. $10 to play, kills about 90 minutes and $100 for the winner with 10 blokes.

Canasta
Group of 6 of us play every 2-3 months. Other couples are much much smarter than us but we have not been beaten since 2001

It really irks them and they even have practice nights inbetween games.

Forgot to mention 3 of a kind, we classify as 30.5, except three Aces which is a 31.
