Space Shuttle Discovery

This morning's launch of Discovery marks the end of a 30-year space program. To get this thing in orbit it requires seven million lbs of thrust and it uses fuel at the rate of the equivalent of an average swimming pool every 25 seconds. I love this stuff and will miss watching future expeditions on tv. An update seven minutes into the flight has the shuttle travelling at 12700mph. Quite remarkable when you think about it. Anyone else sad to see the end of it?

I never liked Space Shuttles, rockets were much cooler IMHO.

I visited the Smithsonian Institution in Virginia and stood next the shuttle Enterprise. Blew me away. The sheer size of it is staggering.

Was it relating to a recent visit to Jupiter you had or a shuttle you once owned?

Maybe it blew up on re-entry?

Oh God, I did it now.

No - about alternative less polluting, but more paranoia inducing, launch technology.
But I'd have to look up the references again and can't be bothered as I have to go out soon.

PS: Does it bother you that I've lived and adventurous and reasonably successful life despite my "working class" background?
You periodically imply the things I mention experiencing are fantasy.. :?

Well rockets and shuttles are rather phallic, and my post was about a big one... 8)

Jeez - poor choice of words on my part there. Delete 'blew me away' insert 'impressed me no end'
