Curry!

Postby Media Park » Wed Feb 16, 2011 8:07 pm

Didn't think there was a more appropriate place for this, but....

I LOVE curry.

We have a tradition at work... Curry Friday...

We all have curries, and for me, it is a statement of man points, getting Eight Elephants HOTTEST curry, then requesting it extra hot.

I love sitting in our lunch room, sweat absolutely pouring off me as I continually soldier through the pain in my mouth...

NOW... I'm heading over to Adelaide on Friday week, and am looking for a place that makes exceptionally hot curry.

I really want to test myself out...

Anyone have some ideas?

The fish and chip shop across the road from my place used to be run by an old Indian Family (the kids did the counter service, the parents cooked), and also sold curries. The fish and chips weren't much cop, but the curries were the best I've ever had. Unfortuanately the shop changed hands, and run by a different Indian family (and still sell the curries). However, the quality of the curries have gone right down, and I rate my own curries over theirs.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Beyond India on O'Connell Street has the very best beef vindaloo on the planet. Their butter chicken - a normally mild curry - can be ordered as a hot version and it too is magic. The naan bread is to die for.

Chefs of Tandoori is a quality establishment. I find it a good idea to talk to my bank manager prior to going there

I am proud to say that 20 years ago, my wife & I had tried every Indian restaurant in metropolitan Adelaide
After achieving that goal, we would go to a restaurant for a specific order

Adelaide now has 5x more Indian restaurants & many are first class - we are most fortunate

In my day, you either were a disciple of the Jasmine or Snake Charmer. Every Friday, my friends and I would go to our respective favourite of the two & then meet at a pub to argue our case with "bated" breath. I am a Jasmine disciple and have introduced 100's of my global friends to it. The Snake Charmer remains a mission of misery for me. Many a person who has tried to woo my trade has failed by merely taking me to that inferior place.

Indian restaurants in Adelaide remain as divisive as football teams

PS: Spice Kitchen at Marryatville is crap

There's another indian restaurant in the Foodland complex there in Nth Adelaide that also is top stuff. I can't remember what it's called though - Taj Tandoor maybe??

Easy to spot though, fronts O'Connell St opposite the Le Cornu site.

I've heard that Curry Corner is alright, will have to give it a go.

I went to Nizam's a coupla times not long after it opened and both times I thought it was ordinary.

Whenever i'm in town, I always head to the Chapati House on Anzac Highway just before Cross Road. Nothing flash inside the restaurant but the curry is bloody beautiful. Always go the Lamb Vindaloo and Prawn Tika. Also been to the Tandoori Hut on Unley Road a few times. Is that still going? They made an awesome lamb shank curry.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.
