support the locals if & when you can

Im sure if any of us here were the owners of woolies/coles we would not have a problem .dont forget they were pushed out also during their development and we the comsumer have made them what they are today.
I dont disagree here at all with the topic but they use to be the little man years and years ago. Some supermarket chain from the USA is coming here in a few years and have been tipped to topple woolies/coles and this is making them scared (trust me i know).
coles and woolies are the bullies yes but they use to be nothing all those years ago also and are just trying to make their business grow. If you were the owners you would do them same like i said before...why let the little man like them develop like them and push you out??
like that south park episode with the starbucks coffee chain openng next to the local (tweeks dad) coffee shop and trying to buy him and push him out and the locals realised starbucks were nothing before their might

Interestingly, both shops still thrive there, with the locals seemingly very keen to support both of them.
I usually shop at Foodland there, for the great service, good prices and knowing its supporting a more local store than the giants.

I reckon we shop at the same place then CK
The other good thing about Foodland is they seem to try and buy local - where they can.
For instance I'm pretty sure they are the only supermarket that sells Beerenberg products?
We have a coles close by - which I use when convenient.
The only thing I go into Woolworths for is if they have cheap drink/can specials.

Shareholdings as your main source of income are a difficult path, and a source of recurring ambivalence..LBT wrote:[ I used to work at the bottlo on the corner there and Woolies were desperate to buy that liberty servo, but the owner wouldnt budge....eventually the ex-church on the corner came up for sale...and whatta ya know Woolies bought it, knocked it down and put in a servo!. I worked for Woolies in their liquour division for 4 years and their greed and desire to knock out small local businesses is unfortunately driven by extremely greedy shareholders and an intrinsic desire to be bigger and better than Coles Myer.

Aldi is a supermarket chain on the eastern states of australia. possibly only brisbane i think. But they are a german company and they are in comp with woolies and coles. But their product lines arent that good example -
a mars bar is called a mix bar
packet of allens snakes are some brand from overseas high in sugar
biscuits they have are like arnotts but not arnotts and are ten times the sweetness and sugar content..
a cherry ripe bar is called a ripple bar etc etc..
all the brands the big chains dont stock. but their fruit and veg is top quality. their checkout servers dont pack your bags for you u have to do that yourself. the opperators sit in a chair and dont move. Maybe 4 isles in each shop that are normally jammed pack with people.

They're in Sydney as well - saw one at the Manly wharf when I was there last year.
Aldi's is basically the Ikea of supermarkets.
