I am not really computer savvy people, but i would like to start a survey, but not sure how to do it.
If someone is interested enough i pose this question:

Which Holiday of the year should all Australians be able to enjoy with a total day off?

A. Good Friday
B. Australia Day

My vote is easily Australia Day as i work in hospitality, and today i lost count of people telling me how nice it was outside & isn't it great to be an Aussie.
Yes it is, and i would love to celebrate it too, & i would gladly work Good Friday any year.

I work most public holidays as people like to travel on the train so it doesn't really bother me. But I feel we should go back to having all Public Holidays with the stores closed. Because they deserve a day off also that is what a public holiday is all about.

There you go - poll set up.

Australia Day for me, because my work wanted me to do some stuff today!

For the people wanting "time off," this year is a five day break over easter because it ties in with Anzac Day, so I assume that you'd all prefer that, rather than one day...

Having said that, Good Friday is more of a religious thing, Australia Day is a patriotic thing.

I'd prefer Anzac Day, because of my moral system, I consider it the most important "holiday" on the calendar...

Of the two options though, Australia Day... If you aren't religious, Good Friday shouldn't mean much.

I'm not religous but respect other peoples beliefs so I chose Good Friday. It is the only day in the year where 99% of all businesses are shut worldwide.
I'd like to go to the pub, have a bbq, go to the cricket or go out for dinner to honour Australia Day, there's a fair chance I'd run out of p!ss aswell if it fell on a Friday or Sunday, then I'd be buggered.

Good Friday isn't a official public holiday in Italy, nor France (only a couple of regions), nor the United States, nor Russia, nor Japan, nor Thailand and they don't celebrate it in United Arab Emirates either

The list of countries which don't have a public holiday on the Good Friday is huge. Just about every Muslim country wouldn't celebrate Easter, same for huge parts of Asia where Christianity is a secondary religion.

Hell they even play Serie B Football in Italy on Good Friday....

Unfortunately you work in an industry that can't shut down on holidays (Good Friday excepted) because people like me want to do things on those days ... sorry for being selfish but that's the way things go.

I work in IT and I sometimes have to work in the middle of the night because my customers want systems up during the day ... that's just the way thing go for me too!

A lot of industries have to carry on regardless of public holidays.

Medical staff rosters never took public holidays into account nor paid penalty rates for working them.
We had fixed annual salaries, regardless of when you worked or how many hours a week - usually 85 hours plus.
But you did get days off in lieu of public holidays worked.

I used to volunteer to work the public holidays because they were usually quieter and less stressful.
I'd save the days in lieu than take them either side of a weekend rostered off, to string together a good break.
Of course when I went into private practice I was never off duty.
