Three Female State Premiers

Postby CK » Sun Jan 23, 2011 5:50 pm

There is already a thread on the Politics forum mentioning this, but out of interest, after the resignation today of Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett for family reasons, he is set to be replaced by deputy Lara Giddings.

This is the first time in Australian political history that three females have been Premiers at the same time - with Julia Gillard also leading the country. A very notable day in Australian political history.

How many states haven't had a female Premier before?

I presume SA must be the only one now, although there's obviously a big chance of that rectified at the next election.

She's keeping fairly busy in the background building and consolidating support and plans for the next campaign.
She is not one who wants the limelight for its own sake, but will become more public as the election comes closer and it is appropriate to do so.

Hopefully if she wins, she'll govern for all of the state and not just Adelaide :)

Izzy is no gimme in 2014 ... Labor stunk like hell last year (and still do) and in the end she didn't get in.

When you have to rely on washed up characters like Lucas then all can't be well.

Then there's the Liberal family feuds that can explode at a moments notice.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.
