Only one person - and if Keli's version is correct, two others - know the answer to this, but apparently many journalists who had been covering the case from the inquest stage were stunned by the verdict. After over a week's deliberation, it seemed to not be the expected outcome.

Unless you hear every word in the courtroom you can't judge any verdict in my opinion.I had Lindy Chamberlain hung, drawn and quartered as a younger man via the media only   .I then read 2 books and read court transcripts over years..............geez that verdict was simply laughable :( :(

Lindy Chamberlain's case would never survive early stages today, with the advancements in DNA testing and evidence tests. The "baby blood" in the car, that returned the same reading as that of a sound deadener and rust proofer sprayed within the car, convinced many people at the time, whereas today, that part of evidence would be disproved very early. That's before any real analysis would be conducted on the time frames from the absence from the camp fire, in terms of what was supposed to have transpired during that time (changing clothes, taking Azaria to the car, feeding the children etc etc). Looking at that case in hindsight, it's incredible to think any convictions ever occurred - BUT it was in a different time, scientifically and technologically.

The things that didn't help the case at the time, were the demeanours of Lindy and Michael, at times (allowing for immense and massive stress). Michael, in particular, did not hold up well to questioning at all in court and his hesitations, indefinite answers and lengthy pauses made it difficult for many people to accept his accounts.

I remember the night it occurred as clear as yesterday, was six at the time and the newsflash, saying that a dingo had taken a baby at Ayers Rock, had me burst into tears

Its an interesting point that you bring up re Michael Chamberlain and what he has gone through since the trial, he lost his daughter Azaria, went through all the stress that is known about in the media associated with the trial, then his marriage broke up when his wife left him to live overseas taking thier daughter with her, so he also feels that he lost his other daughter as well. These days people talk alot about beyond blue and so on, yet the mind boggles at what Michael Chamberlain has actually gone through over the years.

Its interesting that one of the things that he says brought him back to life again was his LH/X? Torana which he kept as he says it was critical in proving their innocence when the so called forensically tested blood was found to by carpet dye. Michael recently rebuilt the Torana from scratch and it was used as his sons wedding car on his wedding day. His book listed below is a really interesting read for anyone going through depression caused by circumstance and how one can get through it and overcome it.

http://www.michaelchamberlain.com.au/books.htmlBeyond Azaria

Black Light White Light

Beyond Azaria is Michael's first public record of his personal philosophy and feelings during a time of severe public scrutiny following the death of his daughter Azaria Chamberlain, his job, his reputation and any opportunity to ever regain his former status as happy, private family man. It was said, by one psychiatrist, that he has had to endure the equivalent of four lifetimes of stress from the loss of his daughter Azaria, the eight years of court cases, the jailing of his former wife Lindy and the loss of his second daughter Kahlia to America for six years.

This book demonstrates the foundation and values upon which he has been able to survive and overcome many of those trials and tribulations thrust upon him between 1980 and 1991. He learned to adjust and developed a new lease on life by not reacting to the past events. He sought new skills and created for himself a pathway that has been a catalyst for healing and self-actualisation to new horizons.

CK......agreed on the scientific improvements but the human evidence that was ignored remains beyond belief.Decent people from all over the country at the campsite made the crown case a total joke yet their evidence was ignored(and unreported   as it did not fit the scandal story which people thirsted for and wanted to read) . One Tasmanian lady who held the baby and burped it all the time the crown was saying it was already dead just got totally ignored despite not budging an inch on the stand.

I don't know if she is guilty or not but certainly she didn't help her own case with her litany of lies to everyone.

Sometimes the justice system does not always get to the truth. Look at the Walsh Street killers in Melbourne.

quite simply, you must query some decisions over a long period of time given by Juries, these are ordinary people, plucked from work or home duties, most have no idea of law, procedures, even what is guilty and not guilty. Sure probably they get 80 percent right but you get a decent brief up there for the defence that then goes and speaks in so much legal jargon it confuses the jury, a few get through the cracks. Having been in the situation of being a case officer in a number of cases and having that happen in one particular case proves the point, it goes down to how the sides perform basically, after one particular case where a jury came back with a not guilty verdit, the crook looked at me in the court room, shrugged his shoulders, he walked out. He was waiting for me in Victoria Square and approached me, put his hand out and said, not my fault, Solicitor told me to contest, we both know I did it mate, he then turned and walked off, that left a very empty gut feeling in my stomach but it happens

Judge says Defence argue Keli's alleged lies weren't meant to send police on a 'wild goose chase,' rather to 'protect her privacy'

Judge says even though Keli invented a father for her third baby it was probably for 'very good reasons'

Judge says vast majority of alleged lies told by Keli to conceal her three children are 'unusual,' but can't be used to prove murder

Judge says Keli was a 'rank amateur' when it came to lying

Defense says the lies Keli told in relation to the two adoptions 'mucked people around a bit and wasted some time'

Perjury charges related to alledged lies Keli swore to in documents relating to the adoption of her first and third babies

Keli invented 'Aaron Williams' as the father of her third baby when her first lie about Duncan being the father was exposed

Crown says Keli has told eight different stories as to what has happened to Tegan

Keli initially claimed Duncan was the father of her '99 child. Adoption worker tracked Duncan down. Keli forced to admit she had lied

Crown hands jury a document listing 95 lies Keli told in relation to her secret children (including Tegan) March '96 - Sept '99

Keli's mother's answers confirm Crown's argument Keli told many lies to authorities re adoptions of Keli's first and third secret babies

Keli's mother's answers confirm Crown's argument that Keli told numerous lies to authorities re birth of all three secret children

She has a history of having babies and getting rid of them from her life one way or another. I think there were 4 before the one she has been found guilty of murdering.

So my question to her would be if the Olympics was that important to you and you are clearly very fertile why not:

1 - use contraception
2 - don't put out!

Most women seem to go with option (1) with good success negating the need to consider (2). What about these concepts proved difficult for her?

Last night I had dinner with the biographer of a former Adelaide judge, a solicitor, a barrister, a current judge, and another former judge.
The opinion around the table was that she was clearly guilty and that her pattern of lies demonstrated the unreliability of her statements.
I'll accept their unanimous assessment.

Seems water polo players use the same defence as ballers and lacrosse players...
