I know that some of us with "havens" that they can pick up great things from at great prices may be a bit reluctant to share their "secret treasure caves" with others , but what other places are out there that are fairly well known, with top quality things to buy at bargain prices?

I haunt "Stuck In The 80's", on Goodwood Road, a bit - a shop that sells original 80's toys, game consoles etc, many in their original packets. Excellent staff and more than happy to let you browse in total peace. Well worth a look if you are into that sort of thing.

Depends on what I am looking for. Game traders can be good yet expensive on certain games. But they are a favourite of mine. I also like Cash Converters, and there is a great one here in Werribee called Two Fat ladies that sell a mixture of stuff at a good price.

Yep can't really go past Cash Converters for general products.

Adelaide and Rural Salvage for building materials.

Any op-shop for clothes and household knick-knacks.

For the SANFL obsessed like me, can't go past 'A Toss of the Coin' on Unley Road, Gerry the owner is a Doggies fan and always has time for a chat.

a few tips for dealing with cashies
1.) Always look at the tag on there because the price tag says a few things. It has the date when it hit the shelf so if something says 11/11 it means the 11th of November you won't get much of a discount on the item. the longer the item has been there the better chance of a discount.
2.) All stores are franchised so someone else runs the store so don't think because you saw the item at the city store means they will do the same price at the Torrensville store.
3.) Be polite remember these people are just doing their job and if you rude to them they will remember it so be polite you will be surprised sometimes how they will treat you next time around.
4.) Barter and remember this tip if warranty isn't that important to you or you are willing to take 60 days instead of 90 do that let them know you are willing.
5.) If someone looks after you go back to them because normally they will but don't remind them of your last deal with them. They should remember dealing with you last time.
6.) If you want a discount cash talks better than a card and try to make sure you have the cash on you when making the deal because most deals are for then and there.

... and remember that you are likely to be receiving stolen goods when you purchase from them.

Prices are bloated and they prey on the unfortunate, desperate and sometimes plainly stupid to get the goods in.

Pretty much the same profile as the people who buy from them as well.

Couldnt agree more, the prices they ask are pretty close to what the items cost brand new.

Scour local markets and Vinnie's/Salvo's for t-shirts and old adidas gear.

Incorrect on that comment. If something is stolen report it to the police and keep a record of all you serial numbers. With Cashies they have to three reports on all good brought in through buys and loans. All must be sent to the local and head police stations. Well they do that here in Victoria and I will agree on the pricing but you need to remember they are paying for electricity, wages, super, insurance and all that as well. I find their pricing to be very high at times depending on product. Normally I just browse in the store and look at their prices compare it to new ones and go from there. I normally only buy games, DVDs and CDs from them. If I want a TV or anything like that it is new.
On who they get their goods from normally it is a mixture but I will give you that one.

Im trying to find a cheap NHL jersey for a fancy dress this weekend, anyone ever seen something like this in a 2nd hand shop or know where the best place to get one would be?

There is a shop near Brighton on Diagonal road that may be best. Opition 2 is the Queen Victoria Markets here in Melbourne I paid 25 dollars for a Boston Bruins one. If No luck PM me.

I worked at Gawler Cashies and Strawb knows his stuff.

Everything that is bought will have its info (serial numbers or any other identifying things) sent by report to the local police station (in our case Elizabeth CIB) and double checked. Everything bought is put out the back for 2 weeks until its cleared as not stolen by the police.

Some prices i didnt agree with, and would argue with the pricing department (which i got in trouble for) but most of the stuff reasonable, and if you know what you're looking for you can get a bargain (one guy got a $120 saw blade for $13 because the pricing lady didnt think it was worth anything)

I personally would not sell PS3s because they were over priced and usually rooted...

I worked at Cashies in Torrensville in retail and in Buys/Loans and i apparently broke a record in 2006 for the highest % mark up on an individual item. Purchased a ring off of a poor unfortunate girl for $60 after the boss watched her on the camera and told me to make that offer and let her walk and then work my way upto $400-500 after i had called her back. Well the idiot took the $60. The ring re-sold several months later for $2,080. A solid profit indeed. CC do prey on the week and vulnerable but at the end of the day its peoples choice where they go to sell their goods. Whenever i do a house clean out i still take my old crap there and sometimes am suprised at what i can get for a lot of old useless junk. The key though is indeed to form a relationship with an employee as they will look after you whilst others seem to enjoy the screw job.

Anyway...I have 100,s of items of clothing ranging from average to brand new. Would anyone know of a place in Adelaide that buys clothes???

Well - some times - desperate times often call for desperate measures - and that line there just guaranteed that I will never buy anything ever again from Cash Converters.

Yes - good point - but still sad either way.

On the other side of the coin, I went to Cashies with a box full of basketball cards in the early 90s when it was all the rage...they gave me $300 when it was only worth $20 at the most! They were all common cards worth nothing...
