Set the Opera House nets last night and off to check them in an hour or so. We've been getting a few yabbies here at the moment so hopefully we get a good feed and I can eat hot yabbies and drink cold beer most of the night. Can't be beaten if you ask me. Anyone else here a bit partial to the old yabby???

They should be going berserk by January. We set our nets in a creek that hasn't had water in it for a good 6 years. They burrow down in the mud and live for that long underground and when water fills up the creek, out they come. Tough little buggers.

Used to pull them out of a dam at a mates place and we'd cook them up with garlic and dine on them with beer followed by red, all around a campfire whilst listening to Slim Dusty.

Can I come up this weekend and join you BC? I'll bring the Slim CD

Used to catch them all the time when i was like 10 at the Craigmore Creek but never had the oppurtunity to eat them.

What best describes there taste and texture. Dont know why but i presume they taste like Crab.

I don't like fresh water fish any where near as much as salt water, but crustations...................Yabbies win hands down :-bd

In the main stream or a backwater? I might put my nets in on the weekend

My Grandpa used to drive over from Loxton and set his nets in the backwaters Loxton side of the river there at Berri. Used to catch a fair few too in good years. Beautiful with a nice tartare/seafood sauce. =P~

Yabbies are bloody beautiful. I've found that it's better not to wash the yellow gunk off them when you're cooking with them, it keeps the flavour that way.

I love breeding yabbies! Managed to have over 100 babies last year but killed them all via fly spray!

My mate's got a fish tank with a yabby in it - there definitely aren't quite as many fish as there were to begin with! Also, the yabby sometimes makes a bid for freedom, no idea how he gets out of his tank but he manages it. My mate's two-year-old boy found it in his toybox one day.

Yabby is the fruit of the river. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There's uh, yabby kebabs, yabby creole, yabby gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple yabby, lemon yabby, coconut yabby, pepper yabby, yabby soup, yabby stew, yabby salad, yabby and potatoes, yabby burger, yabby sandwich. That- that's about it.
