A South Australian company going broke. Now I knew about this early this morning but it is such a shame for a company who employs 40 South Australians gone broke.

I've never been a customer but I have heard from two former customers that they think they're a bit dodgy.

I bought some stuff of them and even had my internet through them until 12 months ago. I must admit they were fairly ordinary with the warranty claim I had on my machine but seeing as I knew someone who worked there in the shopfront a quick call to them got it sorted pronto.

I knew something was up last year when they shut their ISP arm of their business. We just got an email followed by a letter that we were all being transferred to Adam and given a special sign up code to identify us as A&R customers.

Too hard to be in retail these days with low margins

Spot on .. Particularly in computer hardware.

Software and Services is where the margin's at, they've probably done pretty well to last this long, especially through the early 90's when countless computer businesses were closing the doors.

Dutchy, that's a point that has me concerned for many businesses in country areas - too little a margin.
Businesses in the country are going to have to be very clever in the coming decade, as everything can now be bought on the net.

They must've spent a stack on advertising over the years.
Would've turned a lot of people off shopping there.

Bought a computer from there about 5 years ago. No dramas. Sad to see this trend of smaller retailers going bust continuing.

Too many stores in stupid locations.

Computer hardware retail is hard enough as it is without that.
There is NO margin.

Computer stores that work are either one shop operations who relay heavily on word of mouth/good will etc (and have no plans ong rowing), or large department stores who can buy massive amounts.

Well lets just say when "WE" were looking to buy our first computer way back when. They refused us credit something about not being paid a proper wage .Even though I had very good work history etc.I was to much of a financial risk.
Few months latter went out to another company (horror story latter on) paid cash and bought a PC out right.

Is there a moral they lost a sale and then lost a cash paying customer who was always after ancillary sales . ;)

I've noticed a lot of office space for rent in the CBD too.
That's a bad sign.
