A delightful -4.6 here this morning. Went for a walk at 5am and it was a tad chilly. Had a 30 minute hot shower when I got home and still hadn't thawed out.

Apparently a big chance of snow in Burra Thursday and Friday night

Will most likely pack the coffee flask and hot chocolates and takes the kids for a drive out there.

The El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is currently neutral.

However, continued cooling of the surface of the tropical Pacific Ocean, changes in tropical weather patterns, and climate model outlooks shifting further towards La Niña mean the Bureau's ENSO Outlook has moved to La Niña ALERT.

There's a 70% chance, or 3x more likely chance, that La Nina forms in Spring or before the end of 2020 meaning Northern, Central and Eastern Australia may see higher than average rainfall and the likely hood of more tropical cyclones.

The last time a significant stretch of La Niña happened in Australia was between December 2010 and March 2011 and that resulted in the country's wettest two-year period on record.

Australia registered its driest and one of its warmest springs on record last year. Fortunately, this spring is tipped to be wetter and cooler in some parts of the country.

There is an increasing likelihood that La Niña will develop in the Pacific Ocean in coming months. Once formed, La Niña events typically cause above-average rain over much of northern, central, and eastern Australia. La Niña also helps suppress daytime temperatures in some parts of the country and usually increases the number of tropical cyclones in the Australian region.

With the prospect of La Niña underpinning the spring outlook, it's no surprise that the Bureau of Meteorology is tipping above-average rain for most of Australia between September and November. Only parts of northwestern Australia and western Tasmania are predicted to see below-average rain. In the tropics, many areas have a higher-than-average chance of an early start to the wet season.

La Nina is formed when the Western Pacific Ocean warms up.
