well which day has more meaning to you as an australian ?

Anzac Day should be more significant

the one negative about this country is we should be more patriotic and I think Anzac Day is the time to show that

Anzac Day for mine.
And whilst we're at it, change the national anthem to Waltzing Matilda.

I can't vote.

I find them both extremely significant - in different ways.

Anzac Day

No comparison.
If not for our diggers, our 2 biggest celebrations would be Schuntzenfest & some Japanese holiday.
No racism intended.

The last post antem still makes my eyes tear up.
I love being an aussie, and i will spend my entire pay buying our diggres butchers on ANZAC day & could spend weeks listening to their stories about yesteryear.

i voted for ANZAC DAY. but i think they are both just as important as each other.

ANZAC DAY is our day to pay our respects to all that fell for us to live in this beautiful country the way we do today. they deserve every bit of recognition they get, and then some. As a reasonably young bloke (23), a lot of the older folk dont think we care, or respect the tradition as much as we should, and worry that the ANZAC story is a fading one. But let me tell you, my son, and any other kids i have, will definetly be tought as much about the ANZAC tale as i was, and will grow up respecting and appreciating what they did for us. It will get harder and harder to upkeep the story as the Diggers all fall away, but it's up to us to make sure they never fade from our memories.

As for Australia Day, i love it. i see it more as an oppurtunity to show love for all great things Australian, and most importantly, our mates.

Australia Day is a great excuse for a piss up but ANZAC Day makes you stop,think and appreciate.

To anyone who hasn't been to a dawn service start this year and you will never miss one again.

Especially Brighton as the diggers come down Jetty Rd in the dark toward the beach and silence apart from people clapping.

Last Post doesn't get any better than that.

Then off to the RSL for some frothies.

I celebrate Monday mornings at work more than I celebrate Australia Day.
Anzac Day's the day for all Australians where Australia Day is the day for descendents of people that violently invaded our great country.

totally agree, we will be at the Edwardstown bowling club again this year, even after a late night it is a "should not miss" event

I'm as Australian as you can get, yet I dont descend from those whe were the first white Europeans here. Where does that leave me?

On the poll, I voted Anzac Day but I do think Australia Day is celebrated as it should be. Lamb BBQ's, cricket, beer and backyard cricket. Celebrating all things that are great about our country.

I dont think ANZAC Day is celebrated, I think it is commemorated and to use the word celebration is not right IMO.

No can of worms, if Australia Day was on a day significant to more Australians like Jan 1 Id celebrate it. IMHO Jan 26 is the most UnAustralian Day of the year, should rename it Bogan Day.

Nah, Bogan Day is the day of Port Magpies first home game of the year. Instead of lamb on the barbie they have $3 snags.

Agreed, wearing the Australian flag as a cape while hunting down ethnic minority groups in very un-Australian and sadly the boof head minority who choose to pursue such "entertainment" give our national day a bad image. Just remember, not everyone does that though.

I was eating lamb chops on the barbie long before Sam Kekovich told me too. It's not so much lamb on the barbie which he spruiks IMO but more the Australian way of life and how many of us choose to celebrate it. BBQ's with mates etc.

I voted for Anzac day, yet agree very much with your point.

I also think that November the 11th should have more significance and I do think that history lessons on the first world war should be increased in a national curriculum. Its a good thing to have ANZAC day, yet how many people really understand the actual reasons behind it all?
