Digital Radio - Who's Got One?

Postby Squawk » Sat Apr 03, 2010 10:37 pm

Just got a Roberts Digital Radio. About to set it up but was wondering - who else has one and what do you think so far? What digital stations do you listen to that aren't on standard radios?
Steve Bradbury and Michael Milton. Aussie Legends.

One slight drawback of digital radio at this point, is that listeners to live sport are noting that the radio is about three to four seconds behind the "live" action, when they are at a game. Apparently this was spotted first this year with Channel Nine cricket coverage vs digital radio feed.

Got one for Christmas and I like it cause I can play it in the shed without the static you get from am stations in the hills area with normal radios. Bit disappointed bot all stations are digital yet though. One good thing was over summer when the tennis and the cricket clashed on ABC, you could choose which one you wanted to listen to as they were both on digital

ditto for Foxtel IQ and live sport. If you want to listen to the radio while watching live footy for instance, you have to watch it two seconds behind 'live'.

I'll get one, but like Dedja, I'll wait for the price to come down a bit first.

No. Digital uses the same frequencies as your standard radio, like local TV does.

If you want Sirius, invest in an internet radio or just play it through their player on your PC.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Same for digital TV, we can't have the TV in the lounge (digital) going at the same time / channel as the one in the bedroom, you get a 1-2 second echo from the digital one

got a little lennox hand-held size for work, at work can listen to FM stations but not AM stations

you charge it up via powerpoint for about 6-8 hours and then that gets about 20 hours of playback......

Yeah i have two digital radios, one at work and one at home. the one at work is good because it is very hard to pick up most AM stations in the hills. and as for it being behind tv, if your watching a Foxtel Game on IQ, you can pause the Foxtel for 2 seconds and it will be the same, i have done that for the two first crows games.

We got one as our Christmas gift at work last year and I reckon it's pretty good. Lots of other stations to listen to and the clarity of the sound is good. It doesn't have and functionality to record but for a unit that goes at less than $100 you can't complain.

Is good to listen to some other stations that don't flood your ears with mindless dribble, just music :)
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Another positive is you can flick over and hear the ABC call of a non Crows/Port game when they are playing and every other media is covering the Crows/Port game.

Yep, I've stumbled across Barry. Spent a fair portion of Saturday faffing around in the shed listening to it.

It can be done - you just need to hold it up at the right altitude and adjust the angle.
My 30 year old Sony Walkman worked yesterday in the hills to hear the Norwood match.
Let's see - it was about 800mm above the floor, its back pointing roughly west and propped at about a 45 degree tilt towards the west with a cardboard box.
It took me a couple of minutes to find the critical operating position close enough to the desk for me to connect it to my powered PC speakers.
