Building Inspection- Advice sought.

My fiancé and I are looking to purchase the property we currently rent, and therefore are looking around for a building inspector to have a look around before we commit to the purchase.

We’re both first home buyers so don’t have any experience with the process. I guess I’m interested in seeing if anybody can recommend a quality inspector, particularly one from the hills or eastern side of town? It seems as though the cost of an inspection varies from $400-$600, depending on whether or not a pest inspection is also included. Is that about right?

Thanks for any advice.

I've recently had a couple done by a bloke from Citadel Building Inspections. He was very thorough and went through everything with me. He charged 320 - no pest inspection

We used these guys when we bought about 6 years ago.

They pointed everything out but explained whether each item was a show stopper or not.

The guy that carried out our inspection was, from memory, Fred Centofanti. From the looks of things he's out on his own now...

C&W Building Services Pty Ltd
Fred Centofanti
PO Box 469
Fullarton SA 5063

Mobile: 0413757634
Business: 8338 5653
Facsimile: 8338 5653

Best of luck. If it's a house over 40 years of age, there's likely to be a heap of things that show up, but that's to be expected. definitely ensure they inspect for termites.

I recall paying about $400 back on 2004. These days I'd expect to pay $600.

We've always used Archicentre and been very happy with them.
Contact Jim Jovanovic on 8228 0300. They are based in the CBD.

If you use a building inspector, make sure you confirm they are accredited themselves. For example, a lot of builders advertise false license numbers as they are actually unlicensed. Contact OCBA for further details.

A final option is to liaise with the local council and see who they use themselves.

had one done 12 months ago and the building inspection was separate from the pest inspection - both cost around $300 each
