There's been no mad cow disease issue in those countries for 10 years as I understand it

The factors that lead to the outbreak have been dealt with

I'm struggling to see what the fuss is, why people are buying into the scare campaign and what the agenda is? Is the Aust meat industry trying to stop imports?

Should we have a travel ban to those countries too? Whose meat do we think they are eating over there now? Ours?

I can never really understand importing food that could be produced here anyway.
It seems to me we should be promoting self-sufficiency rather than dependence on imports that could be blocked in some hypothetical future conflict.
Then there is the issue about the pollution cost of all that fuel being spend shipping food, and even water, around the world...

However, I can see that for the supermarkets, and prepared food marketers, the saving on labour costs outweighs the shipping costs in the hunt for profit.
I'd rather make sure our farms were profitable..

Pretty sure the issue is that meat doesn't have to be labelled with the country of origin. My personal choice I wouldn't eat meat from an effected Country, when I can easily access Australian meat. Consumers should have the right to be able to see where the product they are eating comes from.

There is no scientific test to discover Mad Cow Disease in imported meat.

If you have lived in England during the 80's you cannot donate blood.

Why..?

Because you've grossly over-reacted???

Brits living in Britain in the 80's can, do and always have given blood and continued to stuff their faces with burgers and pies right through the whole thing. Now it's nearly 25 years later and unless I slept through the 'epidemic' of CJD (in that time about 166 people died in the UK according to figures on wiki) then it sounds like your scaremongering yet again.

JAS

Simon Crean has made a very bad decision on this.

Even some of his Labour ministers are up in arms over this.

Labour have already made a mistake of the insultation scheme....they would not want to do the same with this decison. Could be catastrophic!!!! :?

Disgraceful decision.....

But how do you know where it is sourced from? i belive there is no requirement for meat to be labeled with its country of origin. happy to be corrected though.
