What to do with the dog?

Postby nuggety goodness » Wed Jan 20, 2010 4:42 pm

we're heading away for a week in early March and need to put our Akita somewhere to be looked after. our issue is that family either have nasty dogs themselves or they are too old to handle an 8mth old Akita.

tossing up a kennell or something of the likes, does anyone know of any good ones and what is the cost etc.

love some help here ladies and gents.

The one at Hahndorf used to be good, but I haven't used them in the last 10 years because of being interstate. They coped with an Irish Wolfhound.
The key thing is to stay away from the ones that are near dog rescue centres and may share staff.
One of ours got Kennel Cough staying in one of those, and never quite recovered from the subsequent heart strain.

cool i've flicked them an email. i also found one that is owned by a couple who breed Akitas, that is also in Golden Grove. i might have to go for a drive and check them both out to see what they are like.

any more suggestions?

The RSPCA (Lonsdale) have always been very good when we've needed to board our cat. You could also try the Animal Welfare League at Wingfield.

Last time we went away, we had Annie The Pet Walker, who for $14 a day came to our house, fed the animals, collected the mail, put the rubbish bins in and out and took the dog for a 30 minute walk. Could speak more highly of her. Its the third time we have used her.
