I got $50 when I took my old Corolla to the wreckers back in the nineties. I reckon I got the better of the deal

No can do. it is impossible to transfer the rego from one car to another. the rego dept can "hold" the money in your name for as long as you like till you get your new car and put that towards the transfer\stamp duty\rego of a new one, but the actual time cant be transferred.
other than that 85 is right on the money. make sure you take them the plates and sticker though or you wont get anything but wasted time!
