What makes the area you live in so appealing?

I was at a mates wedding on the weekend who was originally from Adelaide, along with his now wife and they have now settled in Berri, are going to build a house and they call this place home. They love the laid back lifestyle and the people and wouldn't change it for the world. I was just wondering what are the things that make where you live such a great place?? For me, the river is a huge bonus. I can just jump in my boat and go fishing whenever I want, or get a heap of mates together and go for a boat cruise and take the eskies and have a ripper day. They never fail. I'd be interested to hear form others what appeals to them.

Love the energy and buzz of Newtown in Sydney's Inner-West, which is also where most of my mates live.

Relaxed area where anything and anyone goes, great nightlife with lots of pubs and restaurants, public transport at your doorstep and only 10min to the CBD.

Never a dull moment.

For me in the Southern Vales it is just far away from the rat race but not far away enougth from all the major events that the city has to offer PLUS the best beaches by far Port Willy to Sellicks. and how could I forget one of the best wine regions in the world. :)

It's cheap and has potential, that's about it as far as Royal Park goes lol (actually I guess it's location is close to lifelong mates, Footy Park, my old footy club etc)

Lockleys.
I have a Footy Club out my back door, along with a Baseball Club, Cricket Club, Soccer Club, Tennis Courts, Horse Riding Club, Pigeon Club, Badminton Hall & Lawn Bowls. I can walk along the Torrens and get to the beach that way in 20 minutes. The pub is a 5 minute stroll away and the back 9 of Kooyonga Golf Course, is 100 mtrs away. The Airport is a handy 2 minute drive, and I can get to Glenelg Oval in 7 minutes. The city is only a 10 minute drive away, and Footy Pk & Hindmarsh are easy quick drives.
We can walk to our Primary School & Kindy, and the public transport is excellent to reach High Schools.
Close to Henley Square & Henley Beach Rd cafe strip. Can launch a boat in 5 minutes down at West Beach. Love the place.

Car Jackings, Stabbings, Police sirens, murders, robberies, choppers hovering overhead for half the night, oh, I thought the topic read appalling

Glandore:

We are 10 mins from Marion, the CBD and Glenelg and walking distance to the tram line so we are well placed

The cost is that our house is smaller but that's nothing that a $100K+ extension won't fix :o It will probably get done this millenium sometime

We're in Old Reynella - I like it because it's retained the 'little village' atmosphere and it's relatively quiet compared to neighbours Reynella and Morphett Vale. All the shops are walking distance, plus there's a duckpond, which my son loves. Good place to bring up the kids. I lived in Millswood for a while, which is a fairly affluent suburb, I suppose (bar the neighbour who brought home an angry hooker with a broom at 4am once), but nothing beats the South. ;)

Have been renting in Norwood for 4 years now with the new wife and whilst it is expensive, we love it here...

Only 400m away from the Bath Hotel and of course the Parade with all shops, cafes, restaurants, a short walk down the road to Coopers Stadium and the neighbourhood is really friendly.

Work wise, I'm on the road as a Rep but the missus works in the CBD so it's only a 5 minute drive, public transport is conveniently located and of course, being close to the city for major events.

Love living here but don't want to be renting forever and know when the time comes to buy, there's no way we can afford to keep living here so I guess we'll just enjoy it while we can for now.

Great thread Bum Crack!

Stirling - love the cooler summer nights and feeling ore secluded than the suburbs.

However, work has dictated a move to Prospect this month, so I'm hoping there are pluses to living close to North Adelaide.

Personally, living in London was the best 2 years of my life. Everything about the place was unreal, I even liked the weather!!

But I'm jealous of eveyrone in the riverland having the river so close and just the generally relaxing lifestyle. I think I'll retire to the family shack at the river one day.

I live in Hilton. Two streets away from City Mazda Oval.

Close to the city, the airport and the beach. Its only a 15 minute drive to Glenelg/Marion, not a big drive to West Lakes, and also pretty close to Henley!

Hoping to stay in this area for my entire life!

After growing up in Glenelg, when we got married in 97 we chose Flagstaff Hill mainly due to the fact houses were so much cheaper to buy up here, I also wanted to live in the hills but that was too expensive so Flaggy was a compromise, we were lucky to ride the housing boom which allowed us to upgrade 2 years ago and build but only 2-3 km's from our old house still in Flaggy, we looked elsewhere back down on the flats, but just couldnt think of living anywhere else (apart from Brighton/Glenelg which is still my long term goal) we are close to everything we want, the country is a 5 min drive away, 20 mins to Stilring, 20 mins to McLaren Vale wineries, 10 minutes to Brighton, 15 mins to christies and the beaches down South - up here its close to the city but still a little removed at the sametime with a great comminuty feel

Seaford Rise. Great shopping centre 10 mins walk from home (Big W, Woolies, Foodland, Cheap As Chips etc etc), few mins drive from the Southern Vales winery area, 45 mins drive from Victor Harbor. 10 mins from Noarlunga Oval (sorry, Mickyj). All the facilities that are needed nearby. No one can build across the road, as it's the Southern Vales walking/cycling trail. Generally reasonably quiet area.

Plus, when going to Elizabeth Oval, can simply get on Main South Road and stay on that all the way to the ground.

I've lived in a hills environment since 1982 - Hahndorf, Mt Dandenong, Olinda, and now Stirling.
I began equestrian lessons in 1981, at Oakbank, and found my tendency to headaches and backaches, and general allergic symptoms cleared up each time a spent a few hours out of the city "air"'.
It all returns if I stay more than about 3 days in the metropolitan area.
