I agree- even the increased sentences seem a bit light - and the originals ridiculous.
But of course governments know what it costs to keep people in gaol and may be encouraging light sentences.
On the spot fines on the other hand are profitable, so perhaps we'll see a widening of their use for all sorts of offences...

Some people should never be allowed to breed.
Just because you can have sex, doesn't automatically make you a good parent.

Society's rules are crap at times, you require a licence to drive a car or fish, you have to be 18 to watch a horror movie or porn, but anyone is allowed to go out and bring a child into the world without any form of educating on what it involves.
