Rude Customers.....

Postby A Mum » Wed Dec 16, 2009 8:50 am

Was just reading in 'Things that give you the shits' -
With Moe saying about people who tap their money on the bar and expect to get served quicker !

So what's your experience with rude customers whether you were a staff member or another customer.

It reminded me of a rude customer I witnessed last week:

A lady was standing behind me at the check out in the supermarket-
I was getting served by a very lovely girl - who was having trouble with the computer screen/scanner.
The lady behind me had no idea what the girl was doing - but because the girl was taking obviously too long for her liking-
She very abruptly and rudely said-
"Would you like me to get you a calculator"

My daughter was with me and we just looked at each other and thought how rude,
The poor girl just looked at her like wtf.

Some people are just too rude [-x

Some people are unbelievable....

During my time working at a Bottle-Shop I saw some uncomprehendable rudeness....

When some 'people' (Use the term loosely) need their booze the whole world is supposed to stop for them!!!!

I think we all know how rude Telstra employees are and that customers need to regularly put them back in their boxes

Everyone should have to work retail at least once in their lives. Probably be less arsehole customers that way.

I got told that I was leading an effing bunch of effing kids at effing McDonalds by one charming man,
simply because he owed triple his credit limit and hadn't paid a single invoice for 3 months, and accounts had instructed us to cease trading with him.

Where I work casually, most people are in a good mood as they are about to embark on a Holiday, so I'm lucky and get basically no rude customers.

However it isn't just rude customers that can give you the shits, but rude people employees too.

Nothing worse then getting served by some punk, and there opening salvo is "Yeah", no eye contact, as they look at their mobile phones and see if their status on Facebook has improved.

I have worked in retail for about 5 years and currently work front counter for a government dept.

Probably the best one i have had, and i have had heaps, was one guy late on a friday arvo. he started getting shirty cos in his eyes we were taking too long, and therefore started insulting and getting stuck into the young girl serving him and his wife. they didnt have the correct ID for their transaction. it wasnt even something for him, as far as i could tell he was just there cos he had nothing better to do in his life....

anyway i stuck up for my workmate. told him there is no need to be so rude and she would get it done in due time. of course that gave him the excuse to open up on me and the rest of the staff in the office. we smiled and let him have his rant, and the manager asked him to leave(his missus stayed to finish her business). he did and end of story, or so we thought.

a few minutes later he returned, after visiting the local supermarket, and threw packets of peanuts under our windows shouting "if you pay peanuts you get monkeys, here is your salary for the next month!!" funniest part was when one of the guys there threw them back and said "nah thanks mate, im allergic"

suffice to say he was asked to leave again! i dont understand how people think that abusing the people behind the counter will get them something that being nice wont? when you tell them it is a legal requirement that it has to be done a certain way, calling me names doesnt change the law.......

Well I manage a public library (yea yea, insert chuckles and 'shoosh' jokes here), and it never ceases to amaze me how many people get shirty over a free service!

Most recent ones:

- I had an old bloke get cranky with me because I wouldn't put the 'free' cd's from the front of the PC magazines behind the front counter to stop them from being stolen. I told him that I'm not going to waste staff time and valuable space securing a cd that comes free on an 8 dollar magazine, and inferred that if he was that desperate for it the local newsagent would love his business. His retort was "I've worked in building for 40 years and I know people like you". WTF?? Librarian builders?? Apparently now I'm 'that thick bloke' according to what he's said to other staff since. Meh.

- Just the other day I had this exchange with another old codger:

Old Codger: "Why don't you buy 2 Advertisers? Someones always got it when I want to read it".

GN: "It's too expensive to hold 2 subscriptions, it's our responsibility to provide free access to the newspaper and 1 subscription is adequate, you'll just have to be patient."

Old Codger: "But it's only a $1.20!"

GN: "Well then, I'm sure there's plenty of local businesses that would appreciate your patronage"

Old Codger: "But it's not worth buying!" (WTF????!!!!! Not worth buying, but you want us to buy 2 because despite BEING RETIRED you don't have time to wait for the one copy we have???)

Old Codger: (storms out the door) "Well I'm not waiting for it"

GN: (calls after him) "Well you know where the newsagent is……."

Good one A Mum! I'll remember that one.

Just had another one in this morning. Some old bloke (yes, they are mostly grumpy old farts) complaining that we don't keep all the dvd series in 1 box. "I get series 1 but then I have to wait 3 months for series 2". Well, the trade off for a free service is sometimes you have the be patient. If you can't wait, go to Video Ezy and pay your 4 bucks FFS.

I worked at Cash Converters...safe to say Im lucky to live to tell the tale.

I had a guy that was well known to our Buys & Loans people, but Id never seen him in retail before. He wanted a Wii Nunchuck and some games discounted. The Nunchuck was $5...bargain anyway...and the games were in immaculate condition at half the new price...i told him we cant give any discount on game related things or dvds...which is true...i also told him that we dont even get staff discount on them...which is a load of shit...but it usually gets them to stop asking...but this guy went off his face...screaming and flailing like a homo...in front of his young daughter too...insulting me and then when he finally realised i wasnt gonna give him discount he went out the back to Buys & Loans where my manager was and told her that i was a rude little prick who swore at him and his daughter (which id never do) and told a big bullshit story before storming out.

My manager came out to retail looking like she was gonna kick me in the nuts...lucky i had 2 other retail staff that saw the whole thing because if they didnt back me up the dick woulda cost me my job over a $5 Wii Nunchuck...

I have MILLIONS of similar stories...from just 6 months at Cashies...

Working in a POS Software business for 20 years I've had plenty of situations I could include in this topic ... Throughout the 90's our software became the national leader in the Fuel industry - Apologies to any on here (if applicable) lumped in with this group, but a bigger mob of pricks with an overloaded sense of power you will never meet.

One day I had a bloke who was owner of a Truckstop threaten me after his new Cash Drawer was only opening intermittently ... I ran through a list of things to check but this bloke just went ape.

Eventually I jumped in the car after an abusive phone call to talk with this bloke face to face (he always behaved like a different person in the flesh).

Whilst I was there I took a look at his system and eventually (after clearing all the rubbish out of the way) I managed to pull the til out, only to find several hundred dollars worth of notes stashed in cupboard and poking through the door.

The bloody idiots weren't clearing their tils and were often going several days without banking ... There was that much effing money in there that quite often the door couldn't physically open.

Found him about a grand in $5 and $10 notes that noone had even noticed missing!!

Can't remember whether I even got a thankyou lol

I work in the steel industry and one particular time had a customer ring me going off his tree claiming i had f***ed up and that we were useless blah blah blah....looked into his orders and noted politly that he did not order these from us, he worked out he had boughtthis from our competitor. I then proceeded to explain that i get yelled at enough at home, dont really need it from him and placed the phone back on the reciever. He called back later to apologise.

Same customer has brought goods back for credit left them on our counter and called claiming he has not recievd his credit yet, I again am able to tell him that we do not supply our competitors products and that he should come back and get them and take them to where he bought them from. I could go on for ages!
