Rider Safe course

Postby HH3 » Mon Dec 07, 2009 3:12 pm

I started the Rider Safe course this morning to get my motorbike license.

Its pretty simple but since ive never even sat on a motorbike before it took me a while to work out the takeoff...id get it perfect...then stall...then take off jumpy...then stall...kinda frustrating.

I have some more practice tomorrow, then the assessment at the end of the course.

Just want to know if anyone knows how picky they are with the assessment? From what they said it will be, it doesnt sound hard at all...and with the amount of time you get on the bike beforehand, if you've never ridden before, I wouldnt have thought they'd expect too much from you at the end.

Supposedly the course is designed for people, like yourself, that havent ridden before. i havent done it but it isnt supposed to be set at a ridiculous level, the harder one comes later once you are supposed to have more experience.

i also think that should you fail there is an option for a free resit later, but you would have to confirm with them. if i am right it is handy as the course is well over $300 bucks now.

and when i eventually get my L's...hopefully tomorrow...i think ill stick to the backstreets for a fair while before trying to conquer the main roads...

Do you know anyone who has rural property and a dirt bike you can borrow ?

Nothing better then taking a bike out to the paddocks and creek beds !

Make sure you practise in a clear paddock first so if you come off you don't hit a tree ;)

I've ridden and have raced dirt bikes, but am too scared to ride on the road LOL.

My brother has a dirt bike but we have nowhere to ride it...plus we tried to get it started the other day and didnt have any luck. He wanted to show me the gears and stuff before i did this course. Would've come in handy.

Well the course has to be a certain standard because once you get your Ls you can go out on your own.

The BM in the picture is is nice looking, but I'd prefer a more upright seating style - perhaps the old Yammy Virago while restricted to 250cc.
I did have a Honda XL200R farm bike years ago but never got around to the road licence - partly due to wifely resistance.

Well I failed the assessment by 1 point...so have to re-do the assessment at no extra cost. its not that big a deal to me tho coz id rather have more time to practice before i commit to buying my own bike.

yeah you get points for everything you do wrong in the assessment...10 or less is a pass...i got 11

5 of those points come from not looking far enough into a corner...since when you go around the big curve they pretty much want you to look 90 degrees...which doesnt come naturally to me going around a bend on a machine ive only had an hour and a half on...
