there's a guy who hangs around Torrens Rd, Ovingham (he must live in nearby Prospect), who I would describe as a bit of a character.
His name is "Anton" & he would be in his 70's, wears football socks, long pants or shorts (dependent on weather) & a suit/sports coat- his dress sense suggested his clothes were sourced "randomly"
His has a shaven head, & generally has a pipe in his mouth/hand.
Plenty of times I've seen him standing on the side of the road waving to traffic, other times walking to town (sometimes with a large stick as bushwalkers do). He always seems to have something to say, which of course you can't hear as your driving by.
Now, I've had the pleasure of speaking with this guy- he used to come in to the Bowden Hill Tavern (aka Bombay Bicycle Club).
He was quite a popular chap, as most people would give him a cheer when he walked in, but the trouble with this guy was he had no teeth & he spoke gobbledegook.
Quite often, he'd walk up to a patron with a $1 coin & TAB ticket, speak undecipherably for 30 seconds & you would assume he'd want it on #1 in whatever the next race was.
One day he walked in proudly showing off photocopies of his marriage certificate & medicare card to all & sundry in the pub, & then produced a "bride" (who it appears may have been sourced from Asia ) (the bride actually looked quite miserable )
He was always quite energetic, walking at a brisk pace & never really sitting still for very long at all.
He was quite cheerful in his ways, & quite a character- I would suggest that he would've been Croatian/Russian/Serbian (or thereabouts), & he has been on Street Talk with Sam Newman.

At least every second day, I find myself heading up or down Main North Road...

Outside Chicken Knight (a take-away place) just up from the Enfield Maccas, there is this character who leans on the brick wall there and waves to anyone that goes past and gives him a toot !!

I've been tooting him for the last 12 months now I reckon and even some nights when I'm on my way home from a mid-week 10.30pm game of basketball at Gawler, he is still there at midnight in his spot !!

Looks like a bit of a lost soul, but is quite a big, burley, mean looking fella. I often wonder what his story is ??

His name is George, he used to come into a medical bookshop i worked in a few years ago and ask us about bomb making and the sciences behind it, he would often buy books that had some 'helpful information' in them. he seems like a very cluey bloke but a little dangerous at the same time... he does look very seedy standing on the side of the road all the time.

Used to drop into the Cally before Ian Thorpe re designed it, always had a pint of water with his gobblygook.

i don't know him but what about the old bloke that trundles down hanson road ? he salutes & directs the traffic, gives a wave if you give him a honk.................just another character on hanson road a long with those friendly window washers that approach cars at the traffic lights but unfortuneately these friendly window washers never seem to have the paraphanalia associated with cleaning windows with them

He often calls out "good afternoon" to people, who usually try to correct him with a "no - good morning". Once I tried to outwit him by saying "good afternoon" to him and of course he said "no - good morning"

That bloke is a classic !! Also sells Best Bets at Oakbank ever year and takes great joy in sneaking up behind groups of people and screaming it out and scaring the Be-Jesus out of them !!!

Posted this in the other thread where u mentioned him Bayman...
he lives in the general vicinity of "said" road, always stops and puts his bags down to give the traffic a wave in the back streets, have also seen him wave his arms at planes flying over, he's usually always got something to say too but can't understand him. I Always give him a wave when i see him he's a harmless old fella, reckon it would take him ages to get anywhere on foot though due to his excessive friendliness!
