Being a proud South Aussie, I like to put the Christmas tree up on Pageant Day.

A lot of folk have never heard of this tradition though. I feel like I'm the only person that does this

When do you stick your tree up*?

Seeing as my birthday is towards the end of the month my mother flatly refused to let us put up the xmas tree until after it. I know of a few families who did though

Me personally at my place don't even own one seeing as I am always going to be @ the olds joint so what is the point :?

My mother-in-law religiously put her Christmas decorations up Pageant day.
I don't remember as a kid when our decorations/tree went up,
but for some reason my mum has now adopted pageant day as the day as well.

One for the 'older' members - didn't the christmas pageant used to be closer to christmas??
Might be why it is sort of an SA tradition for some to put their tree up at this time?

In our house and since we had kids 1st of December or closest weekend to that date is when our's goes up.
And usually comes down again around New Years Eve.

O:)

Used to always be the same when I was growing up also, the day of the Pageant.

This was when we got an artificial tree though. When we used to drive to Kuitpo Forest to get the real thing, it used to be the first week of December or so.

My family never had Christmas trees, but we did give presents - I always gave my father two presents as Christmas Day was also his birthday.
My second wife was more sentimental and tended to do the full thing - with a 6 foot plus real tree and premium decorations.
She used the "12 days of Christmas" as her rule for when the tree went up and came down.
For the top of the tree, we had rather tattered looking angel made of feathers, left over from her childhood, that we called the "Washer-woman of the Lord".
This year I won't bother.

Oh good, because whenever I tell anyone (including family) that the "penguin" tree is going up this weekend, they look at me strangely and ask why Im doing it* so early

PS: YES - every single ornament on my christmas tree is a penguin

Ours goes up once we've had enough of the kids whinging because it isn't up yet, the 4 y.o then will use any round decoration as a cricket ball until the are all broken or lost, when we tell him for it he simply replies "doesn't matter".

Yep, the Sunday after pageant day here too. Then it stays up for the 12 days after Christmas.

The reason I don't put our tree/decorations up till 1st of December ish...
Is I sort of found early on that the novelty wore off with the kids,
And it didn't seem as special when it got to actual christmas,
Whereas putting it up later, it's only 3 weeks till christmas,
and it's a great feeling for the 3 week lead up.

Does that make sense, or only to me??

PS: FC when you put your penguin tree up - would love to see a photo on here :D
 Actually I think everyone should put a photo on this thread of their tree once erected :D
