A pleasant surprise

After Cup day, waking up with a light wallet and a stinking hangover, I wasn't feeling that flash.

Near the end of today, I check my wallet properly and find a ticket for the last race of the day. Hop on to Unitab to get the results, and I've jagged a winner at half decent (7.00) odds, to end up fairly close to breaking even for the day. Nice.

Reminded me of a time as a teenager when I put my shorts on for the first time after winter and found 50 bucks in them. Ice creams all round!

Anyone else remember a time when they stumbled over some money that they didn't know about or forgot?

yeah backed a horse at the tab and went home to watch it. Put the tab ticket on my coffee table as i do this everytime. I had put $10 on the win on a horse that went in from $11 to the $2.10 favourite within fifteen minutes, the thing was a donkey and broke down halfway through the race. Being lazy and not wanting to be reminded of the donkey i left the tab ticket there. 2 WEEKS later the misses hands me this tab ticket saying "is this ticket any good im sick of it sitting there for weeks". On closer inspection i noticed the horse name was totally different to the won i had meant to put it on, this horse had a three word french sounding name, the horse i was meant to put it on was a one word four letter name. I walked up to the pub put the ticket into the machine. The bar tender had a weird look on her face...............................

I collected $790 the thing paid $79 for the win, it was the race after the one i meant and i remember at the time watching that race saying no way anyone in their right mind would have backed that thing had form of 990009 or the like.
To this day is still my biggest indivudual collect.

I used to put every $5 note into a tub when I was living in Canberra. And all other coins into another tub. The tubs were under the bed, so I didn't notice it at all. I kept chucking money in it, then I moved to Melbourne and left it in the old house - still renting my room out. I moved back to Canberra, and packed my stuff up. I'd forgotten about the money under the bed. I counted it up when I moved back to Adelaide, and it was over a grand.

My missus and I paid for the paper, takeaways and all sorts for years afterward. Only about a year ago we finished going through the coins. She was happy cos she got her tupperware tub back!

When I moved out of Mum & Dad's place about 11 years ago, I lifted up my desk blotter thingy, and found about 400 bucks....

Completely forgot about it !

A mate of mine bought a house last year and decided to renovate. He found $2,700 in a money bag behind the built in robes in the main bedroom.

His missus wanted him to demolish half the house in case there were any more!

Anyway, lucky bastard.

Found $300 tucked away in a safe place that I'd put aside about 3 years before to pay for a bill and then forgot about. Just how I misplaced that kind of dosh without realising it I'll never know, was a nice bonus a few years later but! :-)

Found $500 in Hundred dollar notes whilst cleaning out my cupboard.
Had no idea how they got there until I remembered coming home "Tired and emotional" from The Cas and "hiding" my windfall in a safe place. This was about 5 years before i found them!

Once I was cleaning a home unit which I was moving out of from top to bottom. There were built-in robes in the master bedroom. I pulled out all the drawers and discovered a small hole in the wardrobe underneath the bottom drawer. I snaked a hand into the hole and felt about under the wardrobe, just to make sure no loose socks had fallen down there.

I found a '70s-era hardcore pr0n video

And to think of all the times I'd sat idle in the lounge, bored witless, thinking "gee, I wish I had a skin flick to watch..."

Wasn't my - well was my pleasent surprise in the end I suppose

But....

My husbands grandfather died and my husband inhereted an old photo album with his grandfathers sporting achievements etc in them.
One day my husband was at work, and my dad called in for a coffee, I got the album out to show him.

We're flicking through it and we find a very flat $100 in there - we both just look at each

I ring my husband - he goes "Oh yeah - that's right"

Turns out he had had a 'win' somewhere along the line and decided to hide it from said wife [-x
Meanwhile forgetting he even had it himself !!

Was very funny actually - and yes he did share after I found it

A guy i worked with years back in his early life was heavily involved in drugs and crime. He was living with his mother at the time who was a very religious lady who really hated what her son had become. He told me one day thst he used to go on three or four day drug binges and then sleep for nearly the same while coming down. Quite often in these binges he would sell drugs and would end up with quite a stash of money. He would hide this under his bed. When sober one day remembered the money and went looking for it, gone. Mum had taken it and donated the enitre lot to her church. He claims it was upwards of $10k!

When I was in Primary School I found 2 x $2 notes on the ground after school on the street
I went to the deli and bought $4 worth of lollies
That was plenty in the late sixties
I was flavour of the week at school as I shared these lollies
By weeks end I was called into ther Headmasters office
He exercised his philosphies on me
Said It might have been a pensioners last few dollars etc
Told I should have told the school or my parents

Made me feel guilty, but geez I was one of the most popular kids at school at the time
When I think of all the times Ive been ripped off financially in mt lifetime, Im glad I spent that $4

And another thing Ive been wondrin is that
What would I do now if I found $100 or $1000 or more on the ground with no I.D. ?

I have found half a dozen wallets and purses in my time, and I have 100% record of returning
But Ive found notes up to $50 with no I.D and I have a 100% record of ''finders keepers losers weepers.
