Weird.

I thought it was already there - called "South Road".

I believe this to be part of the non-stop south road superway. It will go over Grand Junction Rd so will allow traffic both South Rd and GJ Rd to pass through more freely

Won’t it be great when South Road is fixed up ?
Those of us living in the beautiful Southern Vales, Southern Beaches and The Fleurieu Peninsula
just can’t wait to get to Wingfield faster !

=))

Really?
Not really a new road then, just a new bridge.

It says 4km of new road!
3km of it off the ground

Just wish they fix up that crappy bit of road between Torrens and Grange Roads, Sick to death of being behind a car that is turning. (ffs state government either install turning lanes or no turns during peak hour)

The governments could give me a tenth of the money and I could shave off 30 mins not just 7 mins!
Get rid of pedestrian crossings and lights for side streets.
At the moment they just move bottlenecks to different parts with the same time spent travelling.

I hear ya mate, right hand turns should be banned on that part of South Rd.

I agree, something has to be done to improve the South Rd/Port River Expressway/Salisbury Hwy area, but not sure building another road ON TOP of an existing road is the answer. I cant see how this will help ???

First thing i would do is to conduct free 'How to merge quickly, easily and safely into traffic' classes for everyone. You should see the debacle that occurs everyday on the South Rd extension, with 2 lanes trying to merge with another 2 lanes !

While you're at it run a "What the Keep Left Unless Overtaking signs mean and how to work out the difference between your left and your right" course.

I suspect a fundamental problem is the lack of simple courtesy and mutual cooperation - merging is treated as a competition, more so in SA than in Victoria, based on my experience.

I hate that part of South Rd with a passion.
There is no point making the rest of South Rd non-stop if traffic is going to come to a bottleneck in this area.

I guess a tunnel or flyover may be less expensive than buying up all that commercial property to widen the road.
I've never found South Road as it is a problem, even this year, but I don't use it in peak hour, when I imagine it would be pure Hell..

I travel from Torrensville to Wingfield for work each day. In the mornings, traffic heading north is banked up from Port Rd pretty much all the way to the Brickworks Markets.
In the arvos, it can be banked up from Port Rd to Torrens Rd and further on some days, and it is just as bad going the other way.

Troy is right. Right hand turns should be banned in that section in peak hour.

I agree. That part of South Road is the worst bottleneck I have to deal with regularly.

There's an underpass planned at Port Road and they will widen the road up to Torrens Road. Somehow the traffic will flow without stops from through the Grange Road and Port Road intersections. By "somehow" I mean I am not sure how they'll deal with the Grange Road intersection. Refer:

http://www.infrastructure.sa.gov.au/__d ... ary_07.pdf

There's also underpasses planned for Grand Junction Road and Sturt Road, refer: http://www.sensational-adelaide.com/ind ... &Itemid=12

Let me get this straight. The only part of South Rd North of Port Rd that works is going to have a $1bn spent on it to raise it 10 metres in the air?

Good thinking, can hardly find a fault in it.
