Does Obama deserve his Nobel Peace Prize?

Postby Cambridge Clarrie » Sat Oct 10, 2009 9:35 pm

What do people think?

I reckon it's a bit of a joke given his accomplishments (or lack of). Is it enough to bestow such an award upon a person based only on what they promise?

(I've chosen to keep this out of the Politics forum because the Nobel prize is not a political prize)

The only thing remotely relating Obama to anything to do with the Nobel Peace Prize is that Obama was involved in having things blown up.

I have no real idea - I haven't been paying attention to US politics or Nobel Prize politics lately.
Didn't they give one to Yasser Arafat at some stage?...
I'm doubtful that he has done anything significant towards world peace.

On the day he's announced as the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, he meets with military leaders about putting more troops in Afghanistan.

Maybe a slight misinterpretation on the word "peace" for mine.

With George Bush being such a poor president, im thinking anyone following him would look like Mother Teressa, Nelson Mandella and Superman all rolled into one.

I was under the impression that nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize closed a couple of weeks after Obama took office. If true, then that makes an even more complete mockery of the award.

Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 "for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East".
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

I guess the award doesn't require sincerity of intent, just visible "efforts". 8)

It's sort of the same as Steve Waugh being given the "Australian of the Year" award. What a joke.

They are only awarded these honours due to their so called status.

I'm not the slightest bit religious, but I'd be interested in you backing this up with some sort of evidence- no matter how weak it is, otherwise, you should delete your comment.

Yes he does...... about the same as I deserve the X-Lotto Div 1 jackpot for getting 2 numbers....
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.
