ABC vs Commercial TV

Last week, Foreign Correspondent had a feature on the Congo and the juxtaposition between it being resource rich, yet these resources being controlled by militia. Last night, 60 minutes did the same story.

A few weeks ago, there was a documentary series on ABC about teenagers growing up. One of the episodes was about patterns of sleep for teens. Tonight Channel 7 is doing the same story.

Are times so tough that commercial TV are now getting all their story leads from the ABC? Or does commercial media simply suffer from a lack of intellectual grunt to source their own story ideas?

Hit the nail on the head there.

(referring to an Angry Anderson special they are watching on "A Current Affair")

Sam: "I reckon we do what Nine is doing"

Emma: "Sam!"

Sam: "It was brilliant telly last night. You two are both bawling"

Emma: "We can't just pinch the idea"

Sam: "Why not?"

Emma: "It's got 'A Current Affair' stamped all over it"

Sam: "Well, let's just stamp the name 'Frontline' over the top of that"

One of the all-time great Australian comedies, that doesn't seem to be mentioned in the same breath as some doubtful contenders like "Kingswood Country" ;)
