I was 8yo and slept through the lot but not by choice. It was all happening at about 4am in the UK I think. My parents stayed up to watch on tv but even though I'm sure it would have been school summer hols then, Mum said no way and wouldn't let Dad wake us up to watch. We were into science etc too so never really forgave her that one.

I was a very junior doctor working in an SA public hospital.
The doctor's lounge did not have a TV set.
I talked the chief clerk into letting me grab one that didn't work out of the store room and repair it.
The other medical staff looked after my patients while I performed this essential service.

Hah, I knew someone would bring that ridiculous rubbish up.

Southee, I know you're a non-believer. Give us the reasons why you think it never happened...

Personally, I've heard all the conspiracy theories, but the main thing for me is that there's no way that so many people could keep such an incredible secret...

I must say though that it amazes me we haven't ventured further and stepped foot on Mars in the last 40 years... Space wise, we've been somewhat unimpressive (over the last 20 years particularly)...

I personally think that it would be easier to land man on the moon than to have faked it and kept it a secret for this long.

:D
We got let out of Norwood High at lunch time to go home and watch it. A mate and I
enjoyed sausages & eggs on toast (thanks Mum) while being spellbound by the history
these pioneers were making on behalf of us all. i.e. past, present & future generations.
Highly skilled scientists & technicians from all over the world were independent witnesses
and participants in this long awaited and well documented piece of history.

 What a delicious irony.
The old ‘let’s do it’ generations develop the space-age technology that gets us to the
moon and beyond, then their kids refine it for everyday use in transport, communication,
computers and video games. Then an irritating sector from the ‘me generations’ sit
around their keyboards playing with themselves and making up conspiracy theories about
past achievements, instead of getting off their fat arses and actually making a positive
contribution for all mankind.
:?
Maybe it’s generational jealousy that started those ridiculous claims that the pyramids
must have been built by aliens.
Kinda like saying ….”I didn’t make league football, therefore it should be banned.”

I probably looked a bit like that, except I had a goatee then..
I don't remember any patients who looked that good, but I'd have carefully avoided noticing.

Did not happen in my eyes.....as you know Clarrie ;)

They have not been back walking on it in 40 or so years...

The Cold war between Russia and the USA. The race to see who is 1st to get there.

The shadows on photographs dont match where the sun was at the time.

So, so many....

It was a massive cover up.

See the movie "Capricorn one"....pretty much says it all I reckon ;)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

I don't believe it was "staged" but if it was, i reckon it would have more likely have been done in the desert somewhere than just in a studio.

My last year at Marryatville Primary

We were given the day off to watch it

I went down Shipsters Road with all of my "wog" friends to one of their places and ate salami sandwiches.

Incredible memories and I never forget the day

I agree that keeping it a secret would have been such an involved exercise it would have been easier just to go

Capricorn One seemed to start all the conspiracy theories yet the irony is that the moral of that story is that they COULDN'T keep it a secret for > 3 days!

I have seen a few documentaries on the conspiracy theories and they are all so lame I am not have 5% convinced.

It was a great achievement and a huge risk (which almost came unstuck with Apollo 13). I remember arguing with somebody about whether it happened and they were a firm non-believer who didn't realise they went up there 6 times! Why fake it 6 times and risk 6 x the number of people knowing the big secret?

If it was faked someone involved in the space program at the time would have spilled the beans by now. If you read the various books by people involved you can tell it was all very real. A faked mission would have been done once only and everyone involved would be dead in "car accidents" by now. ;)
In between signatures .....

Yep and another point is the Soviets never disputed that it was real, despite the high stakes.
They would've been first, but were more cautious in their approach.
