What ever happened to the suburb of Clovercrest?

Just wondering if anyone knows when the suburb of Clovercrest was changed to Modbury Heights?

There are various businesses and community groups still using the name Clovercrest, so it would be interesting to find out the history of why it was all changed?

This I'm sure will start a rush of recollections of suburban names that have disappeared.
IIRC Peter Goers wrote a column about this subject a couple of years ago. hidey ho!

Or have they decided to go with Seniletopia ?

I teach at the Heights School, and that was called Modbury Heights High School back in 1977. It isnt that close to Clovercrest.

I live pretty much across the road from the Clovey pub and shop at the Clovey shops. The PO Box we have in the shopping complex is Modbury North, so I'm assuming Clovercrest was changed to Modbury North at some point?

A lot of suburbs disappeared gradually after the introduction of the postcode system, under pressure from Australia Post which simply refused to recognise some locations.
One successful hang out has been Highgate, which shares a postcode with Fullarton, but has its own PO.
I remember beachside Austral-Brindisi - "Bring it back!"

IIRC Clovercrest was classed as a 'locality' rather than a gazetted suburb name and was always part of Modbury. (I worked for Aus Post for a few years).

Feel free to correct.

Is the swimming centre still there?

I lived 2 minutes from the Clovercrest in 1981, it wasn't the name of a suburb then.

Have lived around the area for 30 years, Clovercrest as far as I know was merely a small subdivision name in Modbury and taken up by the hotel and shopping centre and a few other business' but all have always been situated in Modbury postcode.

There was a Graymore bus in the 1960s - I think it went up Stonehouse Avenue after leaving the city via Anzac Highway.
